When Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels came into the league as a rookie in 2024, he took the NFL by storm. Beyond his play, his composure in the biggest moments was something the football world hadn’t witnessed from a first-year signal-caller. Daniels didn’t have much of an opportunity to display that talent in his second season due to injuries. However, his former Arizona State teammate and recently signed Commanders running back Rachaad White has a larger sample size of Daniels’ credibility.
White, who entered the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022, played his first season with Tom Brady. In a recent interview with 7News, White compared Daniels to the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

“I’ll say, the biggest thing he [Jayden Daniels] has got is a clutch gene. Everybody don’t have that,” White stated. Other than that, I’ll say a mindset, mentality, and obviously that’s everything. I’ll say them are the biggest two things. Other than that, I’ll just say, man, Jayden is so talented bro…You got a quarterback like that, you’re going to be in every game.”
Jayden Daniels Looks ‘Awesome’ At The Start Of Training Camp
Daniels and White are reuniting on the field for the first time since 2021. The team is hoping the duo will create a dynamic backfield threat in new offensive coordinator David Blough’s system.

Former NFL linebacker and current Commanders radio analyst London Fletcher broke down what he’s seen from Daniels during Training Camp as he adjusts to the new scheme.
“Jayden Daniels is looking awesome,” Fletcher proclaimed in a recent appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.
“He’s healthier…He looks phenomenal, looks in great physical shape, but also in a great mental space. This is going to be a new offense that the Commanders will have this year; David Blough is the first-year offensive coordinator. Be a lot more under center for Jayden and this offense. A lot more play action, use his athleticism, be able to run the ball a little bit more effectively from under center. Those should open up things in the passing game for Jayden. But he definitely looks phenomenal, has a great command of this offense, even though it’s early in Training Camp.”
Jayden Daniels Is Adjusting Quickly To New Offensive System
Head coach Dan Quinn praised Daniels earlier in the offseason for his mental quickness and aptitude to adapt. Blough, who was the Commanders’ assistant quarterbacks coach during Daniels’ first two seasons, is revamping the offense, but not necessarily changing every part of it. While it will be a more comparable pro style compared to the RPO-heavy college-style that former OC Kliff Kingsbury ran, the scheme will still retain elements that Daniels enjoys.
Blough’s understanding of Daniels’ strengths and weaknesses made him such a quality candidate for the job. Taking what has made Daniels successful and helping him develop in the areas he needs to is the ultimate goal. If Blough can unlock the full potential of his quarterback, then the sky is the limit for the 2026 Washington Commanders.
While it still has not been confirmed whether Daniels will take the field at all during preseason, the Commanders’ first matchup is just over a week away when the team will take on the Miami Dolphins on August 14th.
