Boston Red Sox Announce Willson Contreras Decision Before White Sox Game

On Thursday night, the Boston Red Sox will take on the Chicago White Sox in the series finale at Fenway Park.

Most recently, the Red Sox won 4-0 on Wednesday.

All-Star Willson Contreras went 1-for-1 with an RBI before departing the game.


Boston Red Sox Announce Willson Contreras Decision

Ahead of the series finale, the Boston Red Sox announced their starting lineup for Thursday’s game.

Following Wednesday’s game, the Red Sox announced that Contreras had departed the contest as he was feeling sick. Contreras is out of the lineup on Thursday as Boston aims to go for the sweep against Chicago. 

Regarding his departure, interim manager Chad Tracy said, “He’s a little under the weather. Feeling a little sick and then we took some temperatures as the game was going. Temperature started to go up. He started to get a little dizzy, so we thought it was best to get him out of there.”

The four-time All-Star is currently batting .288 with 104 hits, 18 doubles, two triples, 23 home runs, 57 runs, 70 RBIs and three stolen bases in 105 games.

Contreras was traded to the Red Sox prior to the 2026 season.


Red Sox Right Now

After Wednesday’s win, the Boston Red extended their winning streak to seven games, and have now gone 9-1 over their last 10 games. At 62-51, Boston is now 5.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. 

Left-hander Ranger Suárez will make his 20th start of the season. He enters Thursday’s game with a 4-3 record and a 3.15 ERA in 100 innings this season. He has not finished five innings in his two starts since coming off the injured list last month.


White Sox Right Now

Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox have also announced their starting lineup for the series finale.

Thursday’s game will mark Castillo’s first start since being acquired by the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline. Castillo, a three-time All-Star, has struggled this season with a 5.09 ERA in 99.2 innings.
