Yankees Named Offseason Landing Spot for Superstar Catcher

The New York Yankees made two notable additions at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline. This is because they brought in Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals and Heliot Ramos from the San Francisco Giants. With these moves, the Yankees addressed two of their big roster needs and will be hoping that it helps them go on a real run this postseason.

However, the Yankees also failed to address their most significant trade need ahead of the trade deadline. It is no secret that the Yankees have been in need of an upgrade at the catcher position, but they were unable to land one ahead of the trade deadline.

Due to this, the Yankees are now already being viewed as a potential offseason suitor for one of baseball’s top catchers.

In a recent article for CBS Sports, Mike Axisa named the Yankees as a potential landing spot for Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman this offseason.

“I have no doubt teams will ask about Goodman this offseason. If it can’t get him to sign a long-term extension, Colorado might trade him over the winter, when his value will be at its highest point. Super early possible landing spots: Giants, White Sox, Yankees,” Axisa wrote.

With the Yankees needing to improve at catcher, it is not surprising in the slightest that they are being viewed as a potential offseason suitor for Goodman. If they landed him, he would be a fantastic addition to their roster.

Rockies’ Hunter Goodman Would Be a Game-Changing Addition for the Yankees

If the Yankees brought in Goodman from the Rockies this offseason, he would significantly improve their roster. The truth can be seen with his stats from this season, as he has been simply outstanding for the Rockies. In 105 games this season with the National League West team, he has recorded 33 home runs, 66 RBI, and a .254 batting average. This is after the two-time All-Star had 31 home runs, 91 RBI, and a .278 batting average in 144 games for the Rockies during the 2025 season.

With numbers like these, there is no question that Goodman would give the Yankees a lot more pop if they acquired him from the Rockies this offseason. Due to this, it would not be surprising if the Yankees kicked tires on Goodman this offseason.

The Yankees Have Already Been Linked to Rockies’ Goodman Before

Leading up to the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline, the Yankees were among the teams linked to Goodman. It is not difficult to understand, as he was the top catcher in the rumor mill ahead of the deadline. However, the Yankees’ interest did not go anywhere, as the Rockies decided to hold onto him.

While Goodman did not get traded this season, there is a chance that he could get moved this offseason. With the Rockies in a rebuild, they could consider selling high on him to get the best return possible. There is no question that he would have excellent trade value, as he is having a monster season and is under team control through the 2029 season.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Yankees end up making a push for Goodman this offseason from here.
