Angel City Football Club confirmed Thursday that midfielder Jun Endo suffered a right ACL injury during the team’s July 11 NWSL game against the San Diego Wave.
The injury, which happened during the first half, will put Endo on the season-ending injury list.
“This is not the news you ever want to receive about an athlete, especially someone who has worked so incredibly hard to get back on the field doing what she loves,” ACFC Director of Medical Hollie Walusz said. “Jun means so much to our team and our organization. We are committed to supporting her throughout her recovery and will be with her every step of the way.”
A week after the injury, Endo posted on Instagram: “Thank you so much for all your messages. I’m working hard every day to recover. It’ll take time, but I’ll keep positive and doing everything I can to get back to the place I love. The team’s been doing great, so please keep cheering us on.”
Endo, a member of Angel City’s inaugural team in 2021 and a fan favorite, had played in nine games this season. She missed the entire 2024 season after suffering a left ACL injury during the preseason. She eventually returned last season and played in 10 games.
This season, she reached a personal milestone when she played a full 90 minutes in a win against the Orlando Pride on July 3.
“Two years after my ACL injury, I finally completed my first full 90 minutes back on the field,” she said in a IG post, dated July 6. “Honestly, my legs and my whole body were completely exhausted, but even so, winning feels amazing and it reminded me how much I truly love soccer. No matter how difficult the journey has been, thank you to everyone who has continued to believe in me and support us. I’m truly grateful. Let’s keep smiling together for the rest of the season.”
Endo is under contract through the 2027 season.
