White Sox put reliever Trevor Richards on family emergency list, recall Tyler Davis

The White Sox made a roster move Thursday, but it’s not the one fans are awaiting.

The team put right-hander Trevor Richards on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List and recalled right-hander Tyler Davis from Triple-A Charlotte. Slugger Munetaka Murakami is close to returning from a strained right hamstring, and his impending arrival will necessitate a roster move.

Richards, 33, has been pitching well of late, including two high-leverage situations last week in Cleveland in which he combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. In his last 18 outings, he has a 1.37 ERA (four earned runs in 26 1/3 innings).

Since being acquired by the Sox on May 5 for cash considerations, Richards has a 3.48 ERA (12 earned runs in 31 innings) with 30 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances

Davis, 27, has made four relief appearances for Charlotte (three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings) since being optioned June 21. He had a 4.63 ERA (12 earned runs in 23 1/3 innings) with 20 strikeouts in 22 relief outings from April 23 to June 20 in his first major-league stint.
