<p id=”par-1_41″>Many authors would be thrilled to see their work get the Hollywood treatment. But not Tomi Adeyemi. The creator of the best-selling 2018 <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/new-moon-is-the-only-book-cover-stephenie-meyer-didnt-have-a-direct-say-in.html/”>YA fantasy novel</a> <em>Children of Blood and Bone </em>is publicly distancing herself from Paramount Pictures upcoming film adaptation. </p>
<p id=”par-2_28″>“There’s a reason I won’t post anything about the adaptation of my work,” she wrote in a screenshot shared in a <a href=”https://www.tiktok.com/@tomi.adeyemi/video/7658660328879688973″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TikTok</a> video on July 4. “That’s all.” </p>
<p id=”par-3_21″>She added that those who wanted to support her could do so by purchasing her books at a local independent bookstore. </p>

<p id=”par-4_76″><em>Children of Blood and Bone </em>features an all-star cast, including Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/cynthia-erivo-said-real-life-relationship-father-similar-elphabas.html/”>Cynthia Erivo</a>, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba. The Africa-set fantasy movie – which is directed by Gina Prince-Blythewood – follows a young woman (Thosu Mbedu) who goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. Adeyemi is an executive producer and co-wrote the script with Prince-Bythewood. The film is out in theaters on January 15, 2027.</p>
<p id=”par-5_29″>In her TikTok, Adeyemi also included a screenshot of what appeared to be a conversation with Stenberg. In a message, <em>The Hunger Games </em>actor expresses a desire to “reconnect.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_29″>“Do not ever use my name in an interview or video again,” Adeyemi replied in a message dated February 28, 2025. “Do not text me. Do not call me.”</p>
<p id=”par-7_7″>Adeyemi also appeared to have blocked Stenberg. </p>

<p id=”par-8_30″>In another screenshot, Adeyemi said she had not seen the film. She added that it had been “painful” to not share her current level of involvement with the upcoming movie. </p>
<p id=”par-9_22″>“I’m sorry if any of you thought I didn’t care,” she wrote. “I will always care about US. More than any glitter.”</p>
<p id=”par-10_22″>Adeyemi’s update got a mixed response from commenters on TikTok. Some were confused about the post. Others deemed it “weird” and “unprofessional.” </p>
<p id=”par-11_37″>The New York Times best-selling author had previously posted enthusiastically about the adaptation of her debut, including videos of herself on the film’s set in early 2025. Now, she apparently wants nothing to do with the project. </p>
<p id=”par-12_49″>“I do not mind anyone going to watch the film,” she wrote in the comments of her post. “I wrote this for us. i fought for us. i’m just laying down my sword and officially separating my name because i can’t keep being hurt and attacked behind the scenes.”</p>
<p id=”par-13_68″><em>Children of Blood and Bone </em>is set in a fantasy version of Nigeria and draws from elements of Yoruba culture in its storytelling. Several characters are described as having darker skin, and colorism is a prominent theme in the book. When Stenberg and Mbebu, who both have lighter skin, were cast, <a href=”https://www.buzzfeed.com/leylamohammed/amandla-stenberg-children-of-blood-and-bone-backlash” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>many fans complained</a>. Others critics were upset that more Nigerian actors were not cast in the movie. </p>
