Madden 27 trailer features Vince Vaughn as Bears GM — and eventually Caleb Williams’ replacement at QB

Ryan Poles is out as Bears general manager, and Vince Vaughn is in.

That’s the comedic premise of EA Sports’ trailed for the upcoming Madden 27 video game that features Bears quarterback Caleb Williams on the cover. Williams and Vaughn shot parts of the four-minute video at Halas Hall, including a scene in which Vaughn pushes a “Previous GM” nameplate off the desk and replaces it with his own.

“My first decision: Lock down my franchise QB,” Vaughn said leading into a scene in which he negotiates a contract extension with Williams followed by a montage of game play.

Vaughn also introduced a new nickname for Williams: “Permafrost.” It’s a veiled joke about the legal battle over him trying to trademark the nickname Iceman.

Williams gave an odd look at the camera as Vaughn said, “We’ve done the focus groups, we’ve done the straw polls. They love it. It’s ‘Permafrost.'”

Vaughn took a FaceTime call from retired quarterback Tom Brady in which Brady begged him for a spot as Williams’ backup, which Vaughn rejected. It was another layered joke since Brady turned down the Bears in 2020 in favor of signing with the Buccaneers.

The trailer also featured cameos by the Packers’ Micah Parsons, the Rams’ Matthew Stafford and others.

It wrapped with Vaughn transitioning into a dual role as GM-coach, then adding quarterback to his job description at age 56 and saying at a news conference, “It’s important to get this out of the way: The rumors are true. I’m the coach, I’m the GM and now I’ll be playing quarterback… Caleb’s supportive. We’re going to have a spot for him. But I think he’s just loving watching me play quarterback. We’re a team. Everyone puts the team first, and that’s why I’m running everything.”
