Large crowd causes Lake Shore Drive closure at 57th Street

A portion of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive was closed Monday night after large crowds caused a heavy police presence in Jackson Park.

Traffic was closed around 9 p.m. on Lake Shore Drive at 57th Street, Chicago police said.

Around 1,000 people were seen gathered in the area, some jumping on top of cars. A few people in the crowd were seen throwing objects, and others charged toward a line of police officers.

No arrests were reported. The crowd size had dwindled by 10 p.m.

On Friday, University of Chicago Police issued an alert about a possible “teen takeover” gathering that had been planned for Monday night near 57th Street Beach.
