All-Pro LB Jack Campbell Announces Major Contract News

The Detroit Lions didn’t exercise the fifth-year option in linebacker Jack Campbell’s rookie contract. But the 2025 All-Pro is still going to stay with the Lions for the foreseeable future.

Campbell announced in a video the team posted on its official X account Thursday that he has signed a contract extension.

“What’s up, One Pride Nation? Jack Campbell here. I just want to let you guys know I signed my extension,” said Campbell. “I’m excited to be back. I’m excited to be here long term. Now, it’s time to go win a Super Bowl. Go Lions.”

Shortly after the Lions posted Campbell’s message, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the linebacker signed a four-year contract.

“No fifth-year option, just big money contract instead,” wrote Rapoport.

While Rapoport called the contract a “big money” deal, the financial terms of the agreement were not initially disclosed.

It’s also not clear as of early Thursday afternoon if Campbell’s deal is a new contract or extension. The linebacker was set to become an unrestricted free agent next March.

Lions Sign Jack Campbell to Contract Extension

While the Lions didn’t pick up Campbell’s fifth-year option, there was little doubt about the linebacker’s future in Detroit. Detroit declined the option for monetary reasons and not because the team didn’t want to keep the linebacker.

Campbell’s long-term contract coming early this offseason confirms the Lions planned to make the former first-round pick a priority.

Based on a screenshot of the email the Lions sent their season ticket holders before announcing Campbell’s contract, the deal the team agreed to with the linebacker is an extension.

Campbell is set to be in Detroit through the 2030 season.

The Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett shared the email screenshot on X.

The financial terms were not mentioned in the email.

Campbell will have about a $2.757 million base salary in 2026. That’s the final year of his rookie contract.

The extension will bring the linebacker a significant raise. Spotrac placed Campbell’s value at roughly $85 million on a 4-year deal. That would give him an average annual salary of $21.5 million.
