Vikings Narrow Their GM Finalists Down to a Top Five

After holding virtual interviews this past week with ten general manager candidates, the Minnesota Vikings have now identified five of them to move on to a second round of in-person interviews.

According to CBS’ Jonathan Jones, the final five candidates have now been narrowed down to Reed Burckhardt of the Denver Broncos, Terrance Gray from the Buffalo Bills, John McKay of the Los Angeles Rams, Nolan Teasley from the Seattle Seahawks, and of course, Rob Brzezinski.

Vikings Narrow Down Their Search to Five Names

Minnesota has now locked in their final five, and the search should end with a resolution sometime in June.

At the owner’s meetings on Tuesday, Mark Wilf addressed how the Vikings were handling the search.

“There’s some science to it,” Mark Wilf told Yahoo Sports. “There’s of course some art. You have to see the person, know the person, get to know them and understand.

“This is a leadership position and someone needs to lead our football organization and that’s kind of how we’re viewing it. Of course, football expertise, football personnel, our entire staff and team and getting people to work together. All of it plays into a mix. I can’t give you any scientific formula, but I’m confident as we spend more time with these candidates and get to know everybody better, it’ll become clear to us.”

Who Will Be the Next GM of the Minnesota Vikings?

Brzezinski appears to remain the favorite for the job, thanks to his familiarity and respect within the organization. But several of the other finalists have connections to the Vikings as well. Burckhardt worked for the Vikings for 13 years, while Gray was a college scout for the Vikings for a decade before joining the Bills.

Neither McKay or Teasley come from the Vikings past, but both represent some of the most successful teams over the past few years in the Rams and Seahawks.

“I think we still ultimately need to have a leader who represents ownership who can kind of bring the building together,” Wilf continued. “It’s not just the [scouts and executives], it’s coaches, it’s even on the business side.”
