On Friday night, the Detroit Tigers will open up a series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Comerica Park.
They are coming off a series where they got swept by the New York Mets at Citi Field.
The Tigers have dealt with a lot of injuries to key players this season.

One of their players who is dealing with an injury is future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander.
He has pitched in one game this season (on March 30) when he went 3.2 innings (and allowed six hits and five runs).
Tigers PR wrote (on May 10): “The Tigers today placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list with a left AC joint sprain. INF Gage Workman (#99) was selected from Triple-A Toledo. To make room for Workman on the 40-man roster, RHP Justin Verlander was transferred to the 60-day injured list.”
Ahead of their series with the Blue Jays, the Tigers announced the latest on Verlander.
Jason Beck of MLB.com wrote: “Justin Verlander threw a 50-pitch live session to hitters today at Comerica Park. Stuff was better than last session, according to A.J. Hinch, and fastball was up a tick. He’ll throw another session around middle of next week.”
Verlander had spent the 2025 season with the San Francisco Giants.
He then signed with the Tigers over the offseason.
The Tigers wrote (via X) on February 10: “The Tigers have signed three-time American League Cy Young and nine-time All-Star RHP Justin Verlander to a one-year contract for the 2026 season. Welcome home, JV!”
Verlander spent the first part of his legendary career with the Tigers.
He then went to the Houston Astros where he won two World Series Championships.
In addition to the Tigers, Astros and Giants, Verlander also had a short stint with the New York Mets.

They are 2-8 over their last ten games (but 12-6 in 18 games at home).
Following the Blue Jays, the Tigers will remain at home to host the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.
