New Patriots Defender Reveals Titans Couldn’t Stop Talking About Wild 2024 Drake Maye Sequence

FOXBOROUGH, Mass — During his rookie season, Drake Maye had many standout moments, proving that the future was bright for the New England Patriots despite their low win total.

And with that, there was one play in particular during the 2024 season that had everyone talking.

That happened against the Tennessee Titans, when Maye scrambled for 11.82 seconds, ducking and dodging defenders to ultimately find Rhamondre Stevenson in the end zone for a game-tying touchdown.

New Patriots safety Mike Brown was a member of the Titans at that point and remembers that play.

“My teammates in Tennessee, we talked about that play all the time, how long we ran around,” Brown told reporters on Thursday. “And I ended up just blitzing out of the deep half because my guy got pushed out of bounds and (Stevenson) caught it too. That was a crazy play.”

It showed how special Maye was and Brown is very excited to get to be on the same team with the star quarterback.

“(He’s a) great player,” Brown said. “I mean, it was tough scouting against him as well. But just seeing him … the type of leader he is, and he just puts his head down at work.”

Mike Brown Says Being With Patriots ‘Confirms What I Thought’ About Organization

Brown signed with the Patriots this offseason, with the tight end having played under Mike Vrabel in Tennessee during the 2023 season.

And with that, he already knew what type of culture Vrabel would create with the Patriots. But there were also things he noticed during his time the in league that has become a part of the organization’s identity.

So, now that he’s at the stadium and with the team, is this what he expected?

“I would say it just confirms what I thought. A hard working team,” he said. “Smart, physical, do the little things right. And that’s one of the reasons why i wanted to be here.”

But of course, it’s safe to say that a large part of the reason he signed was because of Vrabel.

“I would say Mike Vrabel played a huge part in that,” Brown added. “Been around him before, so I know what kind of coach I’m going to get, what kind of coach I like to be around. So, I want o be a part of that again.”

When making his decision to sign with the Patriots, there was one thing that ultimately drew Kevin Byard to New England.

“It’s a lot of familiarity in this building for me,” Byard told reporters on Tuesday. “So I just think that was huge to be able to be on the backside of my career, being with people that knows what it takes to win, but at the same time, it’s just familiar.

“I just really enjoy that part of it, and that was a big thing for me coming here. They didn’t necessarily have to recruit me or send out a recruiting pitch. You want to be able to play for a team that you know has a winning culture, and that’s what I’m all about.”
