New York Mets, Mike Trout Trade Speculation Turns Heads

The New York Mets have not gotten off to the start that they were expecting in 2026. After entering the season expected to be a top-tier World Series contender, they hold a 16-25 record at this point in time.

Due to the slow start to the year, the Mets have been talked about a lot in the MLB rumor mill.

Some of those rumors have had to do with New York selling talent. Both Freddy Peralta and Clay Holmes have been talked about as potential trade candidates. However, there is also a chance that the Mets could buy and try to work their way out of the early-season hole.

With that being said, New York has been connected to a potential blockbuster trade idea for Los Angeles Angels superstar outfielder Mike Trout.

Mets Linked to Potential Trade for Mike Trout

During a segment of the “Mike Francesca Podcast,” Francesca came up with trade options for the Mets to fix their season. One of those trades would involve Trout heading to the Big Apple.

“My first one, believe it or not, I would look into bringing Mike Trout here. He’s got $178 million left on his contract,” Francesa said.

“They’re willing to eat some of that. They know it’s, you know, that nothing they do there is going to work.”

In recent years, Trout has struggled. He has not played up to his level on the field, but has also missed quite a bit of time due to injury. Thankfully, he has been able to right the ship this year with the Angels and is back to being a lethal threat at the plate.

What Would Mike Trout Bring to New York?

During the 2026 MLB season thus far with Los Angeles, Trout has played in 43 games. He has hit 11 home runs to go along with 23 RBI and five stolen bases, while also slashing .248/.410/.503.

Those numbers would add a nice touch to the New York lineup.

Granted, even though Trout has improved his production this year and has stayed on the field, he isn’t producing like the prime version of himself. There are still plenty of areas that could be better.

While Trout may not be the top-five player in Major League Baseball that he once was, he brings a good bat to the table. Simply having Trout in the lineup would cause opposing pitchers to think differently.

At this point in time, it is unknown whether or not the Mets have any interest in Trout. The Angels may not have interest in trading him either.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors about New York as the trade deadline continues drawing closer. Trout’s name will likely come up again in those rumors.
