Ex-NBA Star Approves 76ers’ Daryl Morey Decision After Playoff Failure

Daryl Morey’s time with the Philadelphia 76ers is finished.

The now-former President of Basketball Operations met with the team on Tuesday and learned that they were going to be moving in a different direction.

Before the team made the official announcement regarding their decision, ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news about the front office shakeup.

On Instagram, the former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins comments on the post, seemingly approving the Sixers’ decision.

Cousins generated over 1,700 likes on the post of a simple clapping emoji. The former star center gave the report a round of applause.

Why DeMarcus Cousins Might Approve The Move

Cousins didn’t have a working relationship with Morey. Therefore, the comment might not have been personal.

However, Morey has ruffled feathers with star players in the past. Sixers fans know the James Harden drama well, as the former MVP was extremely critical of Morey before forcing his way out to join the Los Angeles Clippers a few years back.

Morey also received negative reviews from other star players he worked with such as Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony. Perhaps Cousins feels strongly about those situations. Or, he simply believes that Morey’s tenure with the Sixers led to a deserving dismissal on Tuesday.

Over six seasons, the Sixers had a strong start in the regular season under Morey. In year one, they notched the first seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, the 76ers still haven’t been past the second round during the Joel Embiid era. And over the past three seasons, the Sixers have missed the playoffs once and made the playoffs through the Play-In Tournament the other two times.

Many of Morey’s personnel decisions over time have helped develop a sour taste in Philadelphia. The 2025-2026 season was clearly the final straw. The Sixers finished seventh in the Eastern Conference.

While the 1-3 comeback in the first round against the Boston Celtics was impressive, it was followed by a sweep by the New York Knicks. There were glaring issues on the court that Morey didn’t address. Now, the Sixers are going to search for someone else to lead the charge.
