Katherine Legge To Attempt Indianapolis 500-Coca-Cola 600 Double

Katherine Legge is setting out on a mission that no other woman has done before. The British racer announced early Wednesday morning that she will attempt to do “The Double,” joining the likes of Kyle Larson, Tony Stewart, John Andretti, Kurt Busch and Robby Gordon.

Legge just made her NASCAR return last weekend at Watkins Glen International with BJ McLeod’s Live Fast Motorsports. Now, Legge is shocking the motor sports world by announcing she will attempt The Double, making the trek from the Indianapolis 500 to the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24.

“Very few drivers ever get the opportunity to attempt ‘The Double,’ and I do not take that opportunity lightly,” Legge said. “This challenge is about pushing through perceived limits, betting on yourself, taking risks and trying to do something unique. I am so incredibly grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing in what this moment represents and for building a community around it.”

Once again, e.l.f. Cosmetics will back Legge’s effort in both events.

Legge will compete in the Indianapolis 500 with HMD Motorsports, in partnership with AJ Foyt Racing, piloting the No. 11 Chevrolet.

The Double

To even attempt The Double is no small task.

Larson, a NASCAR champion, attempted The Double in each of the last two years. In 2024, he missed the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600 after the Indianapolis 500 was delayed due to rain. Last year, Larson wrecked out of the 500 early, and he made it in plenty of time for the Coke 600.

Larson’s attempt was so viral that it is the center of an Amazon Prime Video documentary called “The Double,” which premiers on May 21.

“We worked incredibly hard to be back at this year’s Indianapolis 500, and I don’t take a single moment of it for granted,” Legge said. “I’m beyond grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing that women deserve to take up space in every arena – including this one. Together, we’re proving that when you invest in a woman’s dream, there’s no limit to what she can achieve.”

To make it back to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600, Larson jolted out of Indianapolis and went straight to a helipad for the trek to a local airport, where a private jet was waiting for him to immediately takeoff for Charlotte. Then, when he landed in Concord, he took another helicopter to the racetrack.

Katherine Legge’s Experience

Legge is an NTT IndyCar Series veteran, who has competed in open-wheel competition since 2006. She’s made 47 in the series, and is an Indianapolis 500 veteran.

In 2023, after a 10-year hiatus from IndyCar Series racing, she return to attempt the Indianapolis 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. She qualified in 29th, but she was the first driver out of the race after crashing on lap 41.

Legge, who turns 46 in July, made her NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2025. She ran seven races with BJ McLeod’s No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports, and she will return this weekend to pilot the Chevrolet once again. The part-time team mostly competes with McLeod behind the wheel. However, on occassion, a driver will bring sponsorship to get reps in at the Cup level.

In 2025, Legge shocked the motor sports realm by dedicating her entire year to NASCAR racing. She became the first woman in the Cup Series since Danica Patrick’s departure in 2018. In her seven Cup starts, she had a best finish of 17th in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She also finished 19th at the Chicago Street Course.
