NASCAR Cup Series Driver Opens Up on Disappointing 2026 Season

Christopher Bell entered the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season with high expectations after his strong performances last year. Instead, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has faced a frustrating run through the first 11 races of the NASCAR season.

Christopher Bell remains winless despite showing race-winning speed in multiple events. Mistakes, penalties, crashes, and bad timing have hurt the No. 20 team in key moments. Bell admitted that the results have not matched the car’s speed.

The NASCAR Cup Series driver pointed to several races where he believed victories slipped away. With the NASCAR playoff race becoming more important each week, Bell now faces pressure to turn strong performances into wins before the regular season reaches its final stretch.

Christopher Bell Opens Up About Difficult NASCAR Cup Series Results

Christopher Bell described his 2026 NASCAR Cup Series campaign as “extremely disappointing” while discussing the gap between performance and results.

“It’s been disappointing for sure, not from a speed or performance standpoint, but from a results standpoint. It’s been extremely disappointing. I look back at the races, we’re 11 races in, got zero wins. But I very easily could have had three or four wins by now. It didn’t work out; some of it is bad luck, and I’ve made a couple of mistakes.”

The Christopher Bell NASCAR season started with difficult finishes at Daytona and Atlanta. He finished 35th in the Daytona 500 and later finished 21st at Atlanta. Even with those setbacks, Bell quickly showed speed in the NASCAR Cup Series with a third-place finish at COTA, second at Phoenix, and fourth at Las Vegas.

Despite those strong results, consistency has remained a problem. Christopher Bell currently sits 11th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings after 11 races. Last season looked very different for the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR driver. Bell earned three wins during the opening 12 races in 2025 and stayed near the top of the standings early in the year.

Christopher Bell’s Frustration Grew After Bristol and Texas

Several races continue to stand out in Christopher Bell’s mind because of missed opportunities.

“I look back at Bristol Motor Speedway. We had one of our best cars all year, and I got a speeding penalty that took us out of it,” Bell explained.

Bristol Motor Speedway became one of the biggest missed chances of the Christopher Bell 2026 season. The Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR team showed winning pace before the penalty ended those hopes.

Bell also discussed another major setback during the NASCAR race at Texas.

“Going back to Texas last week, I drove all the way to the lead, leading the race, and got caught up in a spinning car, wrecked out of it.”

The NASCAR driver added Kansas and Atlanta to the growing list of races that slipped away.

“The list goes on and on and on about races we’ve could have won.”

Since the early stretch of strong finishes, Bell has managed only one additional top-10 result at Martinsville. Christopher Bell’s winless streak has now become one of the biggest talking points around the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR team.

NASCAR Playoff Standings Still Leave Christopher Bell in the Fight

Even without a victory, Christopher Bell remains in position to compete for the NASCAR playoffs.

The No. 20 Toyota continues to show speed across different track types in the NASCAR Cup Series. That gives the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR team hope as the schedule moves deeper into the summer months.

One NASCAR win could quickly change Bell’s season because victories play a major role in NASCAR playoff standings. Drivers who reach Victory Lane improve their postseason chances immediately.

For now, Christopher Bell continues searching for the breakthrough result that has stayed just out of reach during the opening half of the NASCAR season.
