Patriots Star Gets Candid About Facing His NFL Roots This Season

New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs has officially settled into things with his new team. With that being said, he gave some love to his old team, the Green Bay Packers, when he met with the media on Tuesday afternoon.

The wide receiver had several productive seasons in Green Bay. He recorded 202 receptions for 2.424 yards and 21 touchdowns over the course of four seasons. He also was able to turn his play up a notch in the playoffs, tallying 20 receptions for 371 yards and two touchdowns.

Now, he will get a chance to try out his playoff experience for a Patriots team that is coming off a Super Bowl appearance. That being said, he is taking some of the things he learned with the Green Bay Packers, and applying them throughout his professional career in the process.

He seemed to take a measured approach to the fact that his new team, the Patriots, will be playing his old team, the Packers. Sports Illustrated’s Ethan Hurwitz reported this.

“Green Bay took care of me. You know, it wouldn’t be a reason for me to have that type of pressure against them, because again, my career started there,” Doubs said. “They taught me the foundation of football, how football works, situational football.

“Just understanding complimentary football, how teams can be, just the overall game in general. They showed me the ropes in that area. And again, I didn’t know that we played them this year, but … it’s not even like that.”

Patriots Playmaker Saw Growth In 2025

The 2025 season was crucial for the wide receiver in his development. The Packers heavily relied on his playmaking ability. The playmaker led the team in snaps with 831 and targets with 94. He became a go-to target last season, something that wasn’t always the case in Green Bay.

Aside from just the 2025 season, he showed a knack for getting things done in the red zone. He recorded 21 red zone touchdowns on 59 targets with the Packers. This certainly helped with his production and made him a reliable asset to Jordan Love.

The playoff production is something that really stood out to Packers fans. He was able to provide them with some great memories of the course of his career. The Wild Card round contest against the Dallas Cowboys was the perfect example. He recorded six receptions for 151 yards. This was the third-highest single-game receiving yardage total in Packers postseason history.

Patriots Acquisition Comes From Line of Success

This consistency, as well as his ability to turn things up a notch come playoff time, will undoubtedly prepare him for his time with the Patriots. The Packers have historically been an organization that has developed wide receivers. Names such as Donald Driver, Davante Adams, and Jordy Nelson come to mind. Driver ended up becoming the franchise’s all-time leading receiver while Nelson and Adams both became favorite targets for Aaron Rodgers.

It’s certainly easy to see why Doubs has no animosity toward Green Bay. He was able to develop at a high level, and he parlayed that into a large contract and perhaps an expanded role, with the Patriots. Doubs has the chance to become a reliable weapon within the Patriots’ offense.

The Patriots playing the Packers will certainly be an exciting game for both sets of fans, as it features two playoff teams from last season. The Packers will also be another vaunted opponent on a schedule that will feature some of the NFL’s best. Doubs getting the opportunity to play against his old team will certainly be an exciting storyline to follow.
