Patrick Mahomes Skips George Karlaftis’ Wedding to Keep an Eye on His $325 Million Investment

Patrick Mahomes may not have attended teammate George Karlaftis’ wedding in Greece, but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback still made sure to celebrate the major milestone.

Karlaftis and longtime girlfriend Kaia Harris announced their marriage Monday in a joint Instagram post following their May 9 ceremony at the luxury One&Only Aesthesis resort in Greece.

Mahomes quickly reacted in the comments section.

“Congrats!!!! ❤️,” Mahomes wrote.

While Mahomes remained stateside as he continues rehabbing from a knee injury suffered during the 2025 NFL season, several Chiefs teammates attended the wedding festivities, including Travis Kelce and fiancée Taylor Swift.

Swift and Kelce were reportedly seen dancing together during the celebration.

Patrick Mahomes Spends Mother’s Day Supporting KC Current

Instead of traveling overseas, Mahomes spent Mother’s Day weekend with wife Brittany Mahomes and their children at CPKC Stadium supporting the Kansas City Current.

The Current defeated the Chicago Stars FC 3-0 while star forward Temwa Chawinga recorded a first-half hat trick.

The Mahomes family attended the match with daughters Sterling Skye and Golden Raye along with son Patrick “Bronze” Mahomes III.

The Current later shared photos from the game on Instagram alongside Brittany.

“Another Mahomes Mother’s Day 🥹 Co-owners @brittanylynne & @patrickmahomes enjoying a dub at home 🥰,” the caption read.

Brittany and Patrick joined the KC Current ownership group in December 2020 and have continued to expand their involvement in women’s sports.

The couple reportedly helped spearhead a $275 million investment tied to a new professional women’s sports league last year.

Brittany previously played professional soccer in Iceland before becoming one of the most visible advocates for women’s sports and the National Women’s Soccer League.

Patrick Mahomes Continues Rehab From Major Knee Injury

Mahomes remains focused on recovering from the knee injury that ended his 2025 season.

The two-time NFL MVP tore both his ACL and LCL during a December loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach recently said Mahomes is “way ahead of schedule” in his rehab process.

The quarterback has continued working at the team facility throughout the offseason while targeting a return for Week 1 of the 2026 season.

The Chiefs are expected to open the new year Sept. 14 against the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football.”

George Karlaftis Celebrates Wedding After Chiefs Extension

Karlaftis enters the 2026 season after signing a four-year, $93 million contract extension with Kansas City last offseason.

The defensive end was originally selected 30th overall by the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Purdue University.

Across four NFL seasons, Karlaftis has recorded 30.5 sacks and 34 tackles for loss.

The 25-year-old told People that the ceremony became the emotional highlight of the wedding weekend.

“I think my favorite part was the ceremony because I got really emotional, more than I expected to,” Karlaftis said.

“I didn’t expect to cry as much as I did during the ceremony. I was borderline bawling when I saw Kaia and her dad walk down the aisle,” he continued.

Karlaftis and Harris first met while attending high school together in West Lafayette, Indiana, where both participated on the track team.

The couple later attended Purdue together before getting engaged in April 2025.

Karlaftis also reflected on some of his favorite moments from the reception.

“I also really enjoyed when Kaia and I were doing the cake cutting, the first dance, [and] walking into the reception to ‘Freed From Desire,’” he said. “The food was great, too.”
