Many Buffalo Bills fans have likely lost faith in their team after failing to reach the Super Bowl for the sixth straight season, despite quarterback Josh Allen performing at his best.
The Bills were defeated by the Denver Broncos in the divisional round, prompting the Bills to part ways with head coach Sean McDermott. In his place, they have decided to promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach.
Bills’ Reason for Optimism This Season
Buffalo’s decision to fire McDermott might offer Bills fans a glimmer of hope for a shift in the team’s direction, but there’s also another reason to believe.
CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo provided compelling reasons why every team should be optimistic this season, highlighting the Bills giving Josh Allen additional support.
“In Allen, the Bills continue to have one of the league’s best players. This offseason, the Bills helped Allen by acquiring veteran receiver DJ Moore from Chicago,” DeArdo wrote on Sunday. “Buffalo then spent a fourth-round draft pick on fellow wideout Skyler Bell, who caught a whopping 101 passes for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns last season while playing for Connecticut. Buffalo embarks on its 2026 campaign with Joe Brady as its new coach. Can the offensive-minded Brady get Allen over the playoff hump?”
Buffalo Added DJ Moore
The addition of Moore to the Bills’ roster could be the key factor in helping Buffalo finally overcome its challenges and make a run at the Super Bowl.
Buffalo has been on the hunt for a top wide receiver to strengthen its roster over the past two seasons after trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in 2024. Now, adding Moore could be the key to filling the void left by Diggs and replicating the impact he had with the Bills for four seasons.
Many fans might look at Moore’s statistics from last season and question why the Bills traded a second-round pick for him, given that he recorded only 50 receptions for 682 yards and six touchdowns over 17 games. Those numbers don’t exactly scream “top receiver,” but it’s important to consider that the Bears had a crowded offense with multiple players needing the ball. Additionally, they relied heavily on their rushing attack, limiting Moore’s opportunities to shine in the passing game.
Now, Moore will take on the role of the primary option for the Bills, and he will have the opportunity to play alongside the best quarterback of his career.
Moore has the potential to stand out this season. If he can rack up over 1,000 yards and hit double-digit touchdowns, Buffalo might finally make it to the Super Bowl this season.
Could the Offense Look Different?
It will be interesting to see what other strategies the offense has planned for this season. Just because Buffalo kept Brady doesn’t mean the offense will resemble what it was under him as the offensive coordinator.
Brady now has full control of the car, and he may have wanted to implement a few schemes that McDermott didn’t favor. With this newfound freedom, Brady can make some adjustments that could significantly change the offensive dynamic this season.
