Red Wings Named Top Trade Landing Spot for Flyers Star Winger

The Detroit Red Wings are entering an incredibly important offseason. After an absolutely brutal finish to the season, the Red Wings extended their playoff drought to 10 years. With this, the Red Wings need to be aggressive this offseason to improve their current roster if they hope to have better results during the 2026-27 season.

One specific area that the Red Wings should be looking to improve is their top six. They could use another star winger in their top six, so it would not be surprising in the slightest if they looked to add one this summer. It should be one of their top priorities of the offseason as they look to take that next step in 2026-27.

Due to this, the Red Wings are now being connected to one of the NHL’s top young forwards.

Detroit Red Wings Named Potential Trade Destination for Flyers Forward Matvei Michkov

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Lucky Ngamwajasat looked at six potential landing spots for Flyers forward Matvei Michkov. This comes after the Flyers’ young forward had a down year for the Metropolitan Division club in 2025-26 and was even scratched by Philadelphia in their Game 4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Among the teams that Ngamwajasat named as a potential trade destination for Michkov was the Red Wings.

“Detroit hasn’t made the playoffs in an NHL-long 10 seasons, and general manager Steve Yzerman’s ‘Yzerplan’ hasn’t come to fruition,” Ngamwajasat wrote. “Granted, the Red Wings have talented wingers who put up points like Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat. But DeBrincat is a free agent after the 2026-27 season and Michkov would be an excellent complement to Raymond as another scoring winger.”

With the Red Wings needing help on offense, it would make a lot of sense if they pursued Michkov this summer. If they successfully acquired him, he would give them a potential long-term option for their top six, which would be huge.

When looking at the Red Wings’ current roster, Michkov could be a perfect fit on their first line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond if acquired. He would also become one of their top players on the power play due to his high offensive skill.

In 81 games this season with the Flyers, Michkov had 20 goals, 31 assists, and 51 points. This is after he had 26 goals, 37 assists, and 63 points in 80 contests as a rookie during the 2024-25 campaign. With numbers like these, Michkov would certainly have the potential to give Detroit’s forward group a major boost if acquired.

Red Wings Won’t Be the Only Team in On Michkov If Flyers Shop Him

If the Flyers end up making Michkov available for trade this offseason, there is no question that the Red Wings would have a lot of competition for his services if they targeted him. This is because Michkov has the potential to blossom into a star in the NHL and is still very young.

While this is the case, the Red Wings would be wise to make a push for Michkov this offseason. Let’s see if they do just that from here.
