The New York Jets are keeping one of their own.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport shared on social media that the Jets have struck a deal with running back Breece Hall to keep him in the green and white. It’s a three-year $45.75 million contract extension. That new $15.25 million annual salary makes Hall the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL.
Here are the top five highest-paid running backs in the league, according to Over The Cap:
- Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles ($20.6 million per year)
- Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers ($19 million per year)
- Breece Hall of the New York Jets ($15.75 million per year)
- Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens ($15 million per year)
- Kenneth Walker III of the Kansas City Chiefs ($14.35 million per year)
The key number in any contract is the guaranteed money. ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed on X that Hall is getting $29 million of the total value guaranteed. Which is the equivalent of “essentially two franchise tags,” Cimini explained.
Jets Avoid a Potential Storyline
This offseason, the green and white placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Hall. That prevented him from reaching the open market in free agency.
The Jets had until July 15 to work out a potential long-term deal with Hall. If they failed to do so by that deadline, Hall’s only choice would have been playing out the one-year $14.3 million franchise tag in 2026 or attempting an ugly holdout. He would have been scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
Instead, Hall is now under team control through the 2028 season.
General manager Darren Mougey said keeping Hall long-term was on his to-do-list and he was a man of his word. Now the Jets have one of their bright young stars under contract to help lift their struggling offense.

“Sources: The contract for Breece Hall is really a two-year, fully-guaranteed $29m deal ($14.5m APY). The third year does not have any grantees in it, but with it, and incentives, the APY jumps,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY explained.
“[It] was important for the Jets to get this done. They felt they were close before [the] tag deadline. They called Nicole Lynn, Breece’s agent, earlier this week. [A] few tweaks & [the] deal was finished,” Hughes added.
“[I] can confirm Breece Hall’s deal has no guarantees in the third year — Darren Mougey has done a really good job in terms of structuring these extensions in ways that won’t hamstring the Jets in the future,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic posted.
An important piece of this deal was timing. Technically, the Jets had another two and a half months to wait this out if they wanted to. Obviously, they didn’t. One of the reasons was the other big running back contracts that are set to hit the market this offseason.
“Notable, Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs are due new contracts. The price was only going to increase. If the Jets wanted to re-sign Hall, now was the time to do it,” Rosenblatt added.
