Orioles’ Star Set to Begin Rehab Assignment This Week

The Baltimore Orioles received some good news Thursday regarding one of their most promising young players. Jackson Holliday is set to begin his MLB rehab assignment with the Chesapeake BaySox this week.

Holliday will gear up for his 2026 Major League debut with the BaySox, who are in the midst of a six-game series against the Altoona Curve. First pitch Thursday night is slated for 6:35 p.m. ET.

Jackson Holliday to Begin Rehab Assignment for Baltimore Orioles

Holliday underwent surgery in February to repair a hamate bone fracture. The injury has kept him off the Baltimore Orioles roster to start the 2026 season. He previously appeared in a dozen Triple-A games and a couple of High-A contests during earlier rehab stints, but Thursday’s assignment represents a significant step forward in his recovery timeline.

The Orioles have been patient with the 22-year-old, and for good reason. Before his Orioles’ debut in 2024, Holliday was one of the most highly touted prospects in all of baseball. While he hasn’t fully met the enormous expectations that came with that hype, there remains a world of untapped ceiling and potential here, and the Orioles aren’t giving up on him anytime soon.

Major League Bloodlines

It’s hard to talk about Jackson Holliday without mentioning where he comes from. He is the son of Matt Holliday, who played 15 seasons in the major leagues and earned seven All-Star selections during a decorated career. The bloodlines are as legitimate as they come.

Jackson Holliday hit 17 home runs, drove in 55 runs, and batted .242 across 149 Major League games with the Baltimore Orioles in 2025. The power showed up. The RBIs showed up. Now it’s about staying healthy and building on that foundation.

The Orioles have a young, exciting roster, and the hype escalated after a monster signing of Pete Alonso in the offseason. The Orioles are currently under .500, but they’re directly in the thick of the American League Wild Card race. There’s a ton of baseball left, and Baltimore has World Series expectations.

What’s Next for the Orioles and Holliday

The Baltimore Orioles will be watching Holliday’s rehab assignment closely. Getting him back healthy and productive would be a significant boost to an Orioles roster that has plenty of talent but can always use more in the lineup.

If Thursday’s rehab start goes smoothly, it shouldn’t be long before Holliday is back in an Orioles uniform at the MLB level. For a team with aspirations of competing in the AL East, the sooner the better.
