Chiefs Get Strong Stefon Diggs Prediction After Trial Ends

The Kansas City Chiefs could use more help in their wide receiver room, and may find it with a newly unburdened Stefon Diggs.

The former All-Pro receiver was found not guilty of assault charges during a two-day trial this week, lifting the uncertainty that had hung over his offseason. With Diggs now in the clear legally, speculation is heating up about his next NFL stop, with the Chiefs predicted to be among his potential suitors.

Chiefs Could Find Missing Piece in Stefon Diggs

In a breakdown of potential landing spots for Diggs, USA Today reporter Nate Davis suggested the Chiefs could make a run at him. Davis noted that the Chiefs have a propensity of signing proven veteran receivers to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Diggs would fit the bill for the next addition.

“Why not … other than a tight cap situation (K.C. only has about $6 million at present)?” Davis wrote. “But a team that’s cycled through vets like DeAndre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown in recent years could get a boost from Diggs − and at a time when QB Patrick Mahomes, who’s recovering from a knee injury that prematurely ended his 2025 season, could really use another reliable vet as a safety blanket as he gets his sea legs back in September.”

Many analysts had expected the Chiefs to use a top draft pick on a wide receiver, but the team instead focused on defense while adding Louisiana Tech’s Cyrus Allen in the fifth round. The Athletic’s Jesse Newell warned that the team is still lacking depth, which could pave the way for an undrafted rookie to steal a roster spot.

“It was surprising that the team didn’t use a top-three-round draft pick on a receiver, which could become a glaring need in 2027 if the team doesn’t re-sign Rice,” Newell noted. “Even as it stands, the Chiefs’ depth chart looks awfully thin at a position that tends to see a high number of injuries. Expect Jeff Caldwell — an undrafted free-agent signing out of Cincinnati — to get plenty of attention over the next few weeks for this reason.”

Stefon Diggs’ Lawyer Addresses NFL Future

Diggs faced a trial for allegations that he assaulted a former personal chef, but a Massachusetts jury acquitted him after just two hours of deliberations. Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of the trial, Diggs’ lawyer said he hopes NFL teams will give Diggs a closer look now that the legal issues had been cleared up.

“I just think teams have been reluctant to sign him with these false charges hanging over his head,” said lawyer Mitchell Schuster, via USA Today. “Now that he’s been exonerated and his truth has been heard and his position – that this never occurred and he’s been falsely accused – he’s been vindicated. I believe that a team will reach out and sign him imminently. And they’ll be lucky to get him.”

The Chiefs would likely face some competition if they want to land Diggs. Davis suggested that five other teams could be interested, including the division rival Denver Broncos.
