Not much has gone right for the Houston Astros so far this season, as they have crawled out to a 15-22 record. Slow starts aren’t out of the ordinary for the Astros, but this time around, it feels like there may be a real reason to panic. And just when it seemed like the team was gaining some momentum, one of their top players, Carlos Correa, became the latest player hit by the injury bug.
Houston’s injury situation certainly has not helped its early-season woes, but for the most part, the lineup has managed to stay intact. After getting scratched from the Astros’ lineup ahead of their 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night, the team has been dealt a devastating update regarding Correa’s injury status.
Carlos Correa Set to Miss Remainder of 2026 Season Due to Ankle Injury
After spending the first seven years of his career with the Astros, Correa was re-acquired by his former team in a trade with the Minnesota Twins last season. The move immediately revitalized Correa, as he has been laboring through a middling season with the Twins, and he had gotten off to a strong start for Houston this year.
In 32 games, Correa posted a .279 batting average with three home runs and 16 RBIs. While the Astros’ lineup hasn’t always been consistent this year, Correa’s ability to consistently put the ball in play allowed him to help make things happen for his team. However, it appears his season has come to an end before it could truly get started.
Correa suffered an ankle injury while taking swings in the batting cage before the team’s aforementioned victory over the Dodgers. Initial reports indicated that Correa was going to have to miss a substantial amount of time as a result of this injury, but as it turns out, it will hold him out for the rest of the year, as he has to undergo surgery on his ankle that will force him to spend the next six to eight months focusing on rehabbing this ailment.
“Carlos Correa needs season-ending surgery on a torn tendon in his left ankle. Recovery is 6-8 months, he said,” Chandler Rome of The Athletic wrote in a post on X.

Correa’s injury is just the latest blow for an Astros team that simply cannot stay healthy. Key members of the lineup, such as Yainer Diaz, Jeremy Pena, and Jake Meyers, are also on the injured list, but it’s the pitching staff that has really been hit hard. Frontline starters such as Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier are both on the injured list, and closer Josh Hader has yet to take the mound this season, too.
Houston should get healthier at some point in the future, but Correa is one player who certainly will not be coming back this season. In a season that has been a nightmare to this point, Correa’s injury is the latest big blow that this team will have to find a way to overcome. The Astros will aim to pick up an improbable series victory over the Dodgers when they return to action for the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon.
