Dave Roberts Shares Return Timeline For Injured Three-Time WS Champion

The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ offense finally caught fire after a rough four-game stretch against the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals. On Monday, the back-to-back World Series champions faced the Houston Astros at Minute Maid park.

The Dodgers soundly defeated the Astros 8-3.

All of their starters reached based safely, and only Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy were without a hit. However, the pair managed to tally two walks each.

Following their recent spark on offense, the Dodgers are close to getting back one of their most reliable and consistent hitters.

Dave Roberts Says Kike Hernández Is Set to Start Rehab Assignment This Week

Ahead of the opening game against the Houston Astros, Dave Roberts spoke to the media about Kiké Hernández’s injury timeline, claiming his assignment can begin as early as Tuesday.

“Kiké is gonna be starting a rehab for OKC,” Roberts said. “Safe to say it’s this week, could be tomorrow.”

The utility specialist started the season off on the 60-Day IL following an elbow surgery in the offseason, making him ineligible to return before May 24th.

“I am eligible to come off on the 24th [of May], but chances are I’m going to be active on the 25th if everything goes well, according to plan the rest of the way, rehab assignment,” Hernández said last month. “The 24th is a day game in Milwaukee, and I would rather play at home than the road.”

Horoscope for Thursday, March 12, 2026

In 2025, Hernández only appeared in 92 games, as he battled injuries throughout the season. The 34-year-old hit .203 with 10 home runs, 35 runs batted in and an OPS of .621.

Hernández signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract this offseason following the Dodgers World Series win against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Although not an everyday player, Hernández is one of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ most valuable assets. Hernández has made starts in every on-field position, aside from catcher, and was a Gold Glove finalist in 2024 for the utility spot.

Kike Hernández’s Counterpart Tommy Edman Faces Setback In Return From Injury

Along with long-time Los Angeles Dodger utility-man, Kiké Hernández, Tommy Edman started off the season on the injury list.

Edman underwent ankle surgery in the offseason after battling with the injury all throughout 2025. The 30-year-old claimed he had one month of a healthy ankle last season.

Dave Roberts shared that Edman endured a bit of a setback in his recovery process.

“Slow program for Tommy,” Roberts said. “Some residual soreness so we kind of backed him off a little bit. Nothing too alarming but he’s just on a slower program.”

While no timeline is given regarding a rehab assignment for Edman, he is about a month out of returning to the Dodgers lineup.

The utility pair of Hernández and Edman do not have designated positions lined up ahead of their return. Both players have found themselves frequently rotating between infield and outfield depending on Roberts and the Dodgers’ needs.

In the postseason, Edman regularly made the start at second base, whereas Hernández found himself typically floating between left field and third base.
