Franz Wagner Injury Update: Will Magic Star Return to Play in Next Game?

Franz Wagner’s injury is keeping the Orlando Magic star out for Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons, and the forward could be sidelined even longer. The Magic’s next contest will be either a Game 7 at Detroit or versus a new team in the second round if Orlando is able to close out the first-round series.

Wagner is missing his second straight contest against the Pistons, putting his status in doubt for a potential Game 7. The Magic star appeared to sustain the calf injury at the end of Game 4.

The Magic are hoping that the team will not need a Game 7. Yet, a Pistons win would send the series back to Detroit for Game 7 on Sunday, May 3, 2026, leaving little additional recovery time for the Magic forward.

Wagner does not appear to be trending in the right direction. Ahead of Game 6, Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley revealed that Wagner was unable to participate in the team’s shootaround.

“Although Magic forward Franz Wagner (right calf strain) was already ruled out yesterday for tonight’s Game 6 against the Pistons, I asked Orlando coach Jamahl Mosley if Wagner was able to do anything at shootaround this morning,” Beede detailed in a May 1, message on X. “Mosley’s answer: ‘No.’”
