Former Steelers WR Chase Claypool Resurfaces in NFL With Tryout: Report

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool hasn’t played in the NFL in nearly three years. But he will have an opportunity to make a return to the league this spring.

ESPN’s Matt Schneidman reported Friday that Claypool is at rookie minicamp for the Green Bay Packers on a tryout basis.

Claypool turned in a pair of 800-receiving yard seasons for the Steelers in 2020 and 2021. But he was truly a star just as a rookie. Claypool burst onto the scene after being a second-round pick in 2020 with 62 catches, 873 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

He also had two rushing scores.

But he fell out of favor with the team, and the Steelers traded him to the Chicago Bears for a second-round pick in 2022. That selection famously became cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Claypool flamed out with the Chicago Bears. He had just 18 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown in 10 games with Chicago.

Claypool last played in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins during the 2023 campaign. He registered four catches for 26 yards in nine contests.
