Justin Rose Takes Risky Step Before Cadillac Championship

At the upcoming 2026 Cadillac Championship, Justin Rose is set to debut a new chapter in his career. The English professional will put the all new McLaren Blades into play for the first time, not only in his career, but for the first time in PGA Tour history. The 45-year-old has spent the last several seasons without a dedicated equipment sponsor. The change-up makes this partnership with McLaren all the more notable.

McLaren Golf’s official launch is set for April 29. This release coincides with Round 1 of the Cadillac Championship and comes just one week ahead of the Miami Grand Prix. With the spotlight on the player and the product, the PGA Tour’s Signature Event will act as testing ground as Rose looks to capture another PGA Tour victory this season.

Justin Rose and McLaren Team Up

Rose’s partnership with McLaren is more than just a standard endorsement deal. Instead, Rose has taken an active role behind the scenes as a collaborator and an investor. His involvement in the development process signifies a deep level of commitment, something not always seen in equipment partnerships.

Given his longstanding ties to the Formula One world, the move doesn’t come as a total surprise. Rose is close friends with CEO Zak Brown. Alongside that, he has frequently played golf alongside F1 driver Lando Norris. Rose has also attended plenty of races, strengthening his connection to the McLaren brand.

In a release, Rose spoke about the process, and how it led to the clubs debut on the PGA Tour.

“From the beginning, this has been a passion project,” Rose said. “I’ve had the opportunity to be involved from the outset — working with the team, testing the clubs and helping shape what they’ve become. That level of involvement, combined with the standards McLaren brings to everything they do, made this an easy decision for me. I’m excited to put the clubs in play and watch the brand flourish.”

Both McLaren and Rose shared the news on social media, with the clubs and the bag featuring the signature papaya color associated with the McLaren brand.

Cause for Concern

The timing of the switch has raised eyebrows. Rose is currently enjoying a strong run on the course, highlighted by a win at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. He followed up the win with a T3 finish at the The Masters shortly after. Just last year, he narrowly missed out on a green jacket in a playoff against Rory McIlroy.

Currently ranked No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rose finds himself among the best. A fact that makes the move all the more interesting. Switching equipment at such a high level time always carries some degree of risk, especially when performance is already trending upward.

Off the course, Rose’s sponsorship portfolio continues to grow, with partners including Morgan Stanley and Workday. His recent addition of Teneo, alongside this new venture with McLaren, signals the ongoing expansion of his brand.

Whether the new clubs provide a competitive edge or require an adjustment period will soon be seen. One thing, however, is certain: all eyes will be on Rose as he tees off this week at Trump National Doral.
