Jalen Brunson Addresses Ankle Injury Concerns Ahead of Knicks Game 5

The New York Knicks head into Game 5 against the Atlanta Hawks with the series knotted at 2-2, and all eyes are on Jalen Brunson.

After a scary ankle scare in Game 4, Knicks fans want answers. Brunson has spoken, but his answers are raising more questions than they’re settling heading into the next game at Madison Square Garden.

Kristian Winfield’s Practice Clip Sparks Brunson Ankle Concerns

The anxiety started building when New York Daily News reporter Kristian Winfield posted a video from the Knicks’ practice session ahead of Game 5. A fan quickly replied asking the question every Knicks fan had on their mind: “Any word on Brunson and ankle?”

Winfield’s response said everything without saying much at all: “Brunson said he feels fine, which is what he would say if someone took a sledgehammer to his foot 5 minutes before tipoff.”

That one line lit up Knicks Twitter. Because honestly? He’s not wrong. Brunson has never been the type to admit he’s hurting and the fanbase knows it.

At his latest media availability, Brunson was asked directly how his leg feels. His answer? One word: “Great.”

Earlier, after Game 4, The Athletic’s Fred Katz pressed him on whether the ankle forced him to come out and whether he needed treatment post-game. Brunson’s response was vintage JB: “I’m right here. I’m all good.”

What Actually Happened in Game 4

The scare occurred during a loose-ball scramble in the third quarter. Hawks guard Dyson Daniels landed directly on Brunson’s left ankle, and Brunson also appeared to tweak his right ankle during the same play.

He jogged to the tunnel with 10:29 remaining in the third quarter and the team gave no immediate update on his status. He returned at the 6:53 mark and checked back in at the 5:38 mark, showing no visible limitations.

He even absorbed another hit in the fourth quarter when Onyeka Okongwu fell backward into his left knee and never came out.

Despite the injury concerns, Brunson has been the engine of everything New York has built this postseason. The Knicks entered the playoffs fully healthy after Brunson was cleared off the injury report entirely ahead of Game 1.

In Game 4, he finished with 19 points and three assists even while dealing with the ankle issue, helping the Knicks close out a dominant 114-98 road win. It was a must-win after New York had dropped two straight gut-punch losses, including a CJ McCollum buzzer-beater in Game 3.

Game 5 is at Madison Square Garden, and Jalen Brunson? He says he feels great. Take that for whatever it’s worth.
