Talladega wasnât done after the âBig One.â
Just minutes after a massive multi-car crash wiped out a large portion of the field, Ty Gibbs became the next driver caught in a violent incident during Stage 2 of the NASCAR Cup Series race.
Right-Front Tire Failure Sends Gibbs Into Wall
Gibbsâ crash unfolded quickly â and violently.
The No. 54 Toyota suffered a sudden right-front tire failure, sending the car shooting up the track with no warning. With virtually no time to react, Gibbs slammed hard into the outside wall.
The impact was severe, with the nose of the car folding up on contact.
âThat is an extremely hard hit,â Clint Bowyer said on the broadcast.
âMassive hit,â Kevin Harvick added moments later.
At superspeedway speeds, a tire failure leaves drivers with almost no chance to save the car â and Gibbsâ crash was a clear example of just how quickly things can go wrong at Talladega.
Crash Comes Moments After the âBig Oneâ
The timing made the incident even more striking.
Gibbsâ wreck came shortly after the âBig Oneâ â a massive crash involving at least 25 cars that brought much of the field to a halt during Stage 2. Drivers described the aftermath as a âparking lot,â with damaged cars scattered across the track.
Some competitors had just managed to escape that wreck, only for another major incident to unfold minutes later.
Michael McDowell, who initially avoided the worst of the damage in the earlier crash, was later collected in a separate incident â underscoring just how chaotic the stretch of racing had become.
Another Brutal Talladega Reminder
Talladega Superspeedway has long been known for producing unpredictable and high-impact moments, and this sequence was another reminder of that reality.
A single mechanical issue â like a tire going down â can instantly turn into a heavy crash at these speeds.
Gibbsâ car took significant damage to the front end and right side, ending his day and adding to the growing list of incidents in an already chaotic race.
For a race that had already seen one of the biggest crashes of the season, Talladega delivered yet another jarring moment just minutes later.
