Broncos Rookie RB Called Shot About Destination Before NFL Draft

There’s manifesting, which we all try to do in 1 way or another, and there’s what Denver Broncos running back and 2026 2nd round pick Jonah Coleman did before the NFL draft.

What Coleman did seems a little more mystical after he correctly predicted which NFL team he was going to play for.

“Jonah Coleman was meant to be a Denver Bronco!!” Broncos fan account Boisabronco wrote on its official X account. “He called his shot prior to the draft.”

Attending a pre-draft event, Coleman was filmed walking up to a mock display of the dais that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stands at when he announces draft picks.

“With the 62nd pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select … Jonah Coleman! University of Washington! Running back!” Coleman says, smiling.

The Broncos didn’t select Coleman with the 62nd pick — they took him at No. 108 overall in the 4th round.

“Spoke into existence,” Coleman wrote on X.

Broncos Draft RB for 2nd Consecutive Year

It was the 2nd consecutive year the Broncos drafted a running back following 2nd round pick RJ Harvey in 2025.

“Broncos’ new RB Jonah Coleman can do it all,” DNVR’s Zac Stevens wrote on his official X account on Saturday. “Last two years at Washington, he racked up 1,811 rushing yards and 531 receiving yards with a whopping 27 total TDs … Broncos RB room: J.K. DobbinsRJ Harvey, Jonah Coleman, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie.”

Both Harvey and veteran J.K. Dobbins, who signed a 2-year $16 million contract on March 9, should both be considered starter-caliber at this point. Harvey scored 12 touchdowns as a rookie and Dobbins was on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards before a season-ending foot injury in Week 10.

Jonah Coleman Compared to Former NFL Star

Coleman, 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, drew pre-draft comparisons to former NFL star running back Maurice Jones-Drew — a 5-foot-7, 210-pound NFL All-Pro and 3-time Pro Bowler.

“Jonah Coleman was being compared to Maurice Jones-Drew during the pre-draft process,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account. “Legit bowling ball very tough to bring down.”

NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein correctly predicted Coleman would be a 4th round pick.

“Team captain and productive three-down back,” Zierlein wrote. “Coleman has a clear understanding of run-blocking schemes and protection duties. He knows where blocks are likely to develop and finds those spots. However, he lacks speed as an outside runner and has average burst between the tackles. He’s more of a tackle-slipper than a tackle-breaker, so it’s imperative that Coleman plays at a brisker pace to stay ahead of closing defenders. He projects as a Day 3 option who can compete for a job as a three-down backup.”

Unusual Draft Year for Broncos

For the 1st time since 1995, the Broncos did not have a 1st- or 2nd-round pick. Denver traded its 1st round pick (No. 30 overall) to the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and traded out of the 2nd round.

The Broncos received an “A” grade from Sports Illustrated’s Chad Jensen for selecting Coleman.

“The Broncos landed an excellent fit at running back in Coleman,” Jensen wrote. “He gives Denver a between-the-tackles grinder and some J.K. Dobbins insurance. Coleman is a great team guy and will fit into the Broncos’ locker-room culture well. Throw in his excellence as a pass protector, and the value here in Round 4 was very good.
