Mets Predicted to Trade for Former Braves World Series MVP in Latest Mock

The New York Mets have finally won a baseball game. On Wednesday, the Mets defeated the Twins 3-2 to erase their 12-game losing streak from the fans’ memory. While the win is a start, New York is now playing behind the eight-ball in every game moving forward. New York still holds a share of MLB’s worst record at the moment.

It’s still too early to start thinking about impactful trade across MLB, but it’s very fair to assume that the Mets and David Stearns might be big players this summer, given the recent success of the team (which is very little). A recent hypothetical trade idea by SI.com’s Ryan Shear places former Atlanta Braves World Series MVP Jorge Soler in Queens for a pair of players.

Jorge Soler’s Trade Speculation Is Growing

It isn’t just Shea who believes Jorge Soler could be traded for the right price. Earlier this week, an ESPN writer wrote that Soler is the Los Angeles Angels ‘top trade candidate’:

“Are they good enough to stay in the race? We’ll see. The pitching is thin, and the bench is weak. Soler could be one of the few big hitters available if the Angels fade, but they’re usually unwilling to admit that they’re out of it (see Shohei Ohtani in 2023).”

According to Shea, a good trade package for Soler includes Jonathan Santucci and Eli Serrano III. This would also fulfill the needs of the Angels, who may be looking for a young player come June and July.

Jorge Soler is off to a fast start in 2026. Here are his stats: 22 games played, five home runs, 19 RBI, .443 slugging percentage, 117 OPS+. He’s never a guy who will hit for a high average, but the Braves traded for Soler at the break during the 2021 season, and he wound up winning World Series MVP in his time in Atlanta.

Would Jorge Soler Be a Good Fit for the Mets?

The Mets have received awful production from their designated hitters this season. Over the 24 games they’ve played, DHs have just two home runs, and have a collective OPS just above .600.

DH is supposed to be a position where one of the best hitters on the team is, or at least a player with strong power upside.

For Soler, he checks the box of high power upside. Not a good defender, but he could be a welcome addition to this Mets lineup that is struggling to hit home runs right now.
