The New York Yankees have raced out to a 14-9 record early in the 2026 campaign, and they have benefited from some great outings from their starting rotation. With Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon on the injured list, Cam Schlittler has stepped up and formed a formidable pairing with Max Fried atop the rotation.
And yet, Schlittler has found himself involved in some drama due to his ongoing social media beef with the Boston Red Sox and their fanbase. The situation caught the attention of manager Aaron Boone, and while he stood by Schlittler, he also issued a stern warning as he prepares to make his first start at Fenway Park.
Aaron Boone Urges Cam Schlittler to Limit His Social Media Presence
Schlittler emerged to the forefront of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry when he shut down Boston in Game 3 of their wild-card playoff series last year. A Massachusetts native, Schlittler faced backlash from Red Sox fans regarding his comments about the team and its fanbase in the wake of his dominant postseason performance.
Through five starts in 2026, Schlittler has looked like a budding star, as he’s posted a minuscule 1.95 ERA while racking up 36 strikeouts. He’s going to face a unique challenge on Thursday, though, as he will be pitching in front of a raucous crowd at Fenway Park that will be going after Schlittler before he even takes the mound.
And yet, while he continues engaging in a very public beef with the Red Sox and their fans, Schlittler has kept on delivering the goods on the mound. Boone has been keeping a close eye on Schlittler, and while he appreciates what he’s doing, he urged the young ace to cool things off when it comes to his ongoing beef with Boston.
“The convos are like, ‘Let’s be careful with what we post. Let’s lay low a little bit,’” Boone admitted on “Foul Territory.” “As far as handling it, he handles it great. It doesn’t affect anything he does; if anything, it fuels him a little bit … That being said, let’s slow it down a little bit.”

Engaging fans on social media isn’t exactly something that managers are going to be fond of, but Schlittler hasn’t allowed it to impact his performance on the mound. And while he may be using the entire situation to fuel his competitive drive, Boone admitted that he thinks Schlittler needs to reel things back a bit.
Regardless of what happens on Thursday, you can bet that Schlittler’s start against Boston is going to cause some drama, whether it be for good or bad. First, though, New York will look to book a series victory on Wednesday night, as it will send Schlittler’s partner-in-crime, Fried, to the mound after Luis Gil and company shut out the Red Sox on Tuesday.
