Adam Schefter Reveals Price Patriots Will Likely Pay for A.J. Brown Trade

The New England Patriots got an extremely positive update from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on Monday, when he reported that they’ll likely complete a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for A.J. Brown after June 1st. However, reports also indicated that the two sides aren’t currently in discussions about the deal.

That left a major question up in the air. What price will the Patriots be paying for Brown? Schefter went on The Pat MacAfee Show, sharing some insight on the potential trade.

“My guess is (the trade) will involve a future (first-round pick) at some point in time,” Schefter said. “I don’t know that it’ll be 2027 or 2028. The two sides still have to figure that out and see where they wind up. But I think the Eagles had been looking for a first-round pick, at least, for A.J. Brown. … So, my guess is that trade will include a first-round pick in the end when the two sides wind up agreeing to whatever deal they come up with.”

One thing that is clear about this trade is the timeline. It is going to come after June 1st for Philadelphia’s salary cap. So, any picks traded will need to be for future drafts.

Not Everyone Agrees A.J. Brown Will Cost the New England Patriots a First-Round Pick

It would appear that Adam Schefter is thinking a first-round trade is coming for A.J. Brown. However, that’s an opinion that does appear to be up for debate. That includes Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, who reported that the New England Patriots are more comfortable with a second-round pick as compensation.

“There is no shot that the Patriots should be willing to give up their first-rounder next year because you have no idea where that thing’s going to be,” Perry said.

If there is concern that Perry’s affiliation comes with some bias, it’s worth noting that he’s not alone in that thought. Rueben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia would echo that sentiment, pointing to Brown’s age and seemingly decreased production as reasons why the Eagles might not be able to get a first-round package.

Kayshon Boutte Named as a Trade Candidate Amid A.J. Brown Rumors

There is a chance that the Patriots could be shuffling their roster of wide receivers after adding A.J. Brown. That includes the possibility that Kayshon Boutte gets moved, as was reported by Jordan Schultz on Monday.

After a rough rookie season, Boutte has become a fan favorite in the last two years. That’s particularly as he and quarterback Drake Maye have developed an excellent connection. In 2025, that culminated in 46 receptions for 551 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Amid all of that, Boutte missed the start of the voluntary offseason program. He would post a photo from Miami on Instagram, showing that he’s not in town.

For now, these are all rumors. However, it does seem like there’s some smoke about the future of Boutte and the Patriots. Assuming New England adds Brown, there will be fewer targets and snaps to go around for the entire room, though, and space will need to be made.
