Phillies $10.2M Infielder Emerges as a Top Trade Candidate

The Philadelphia Phillies entered this season with high expectations. It is understandable, as they finished the 2025 season with a 96-66 record and have plenty of talent on their roster. Yet, it is fair to say that their 2026 season has not started the way that they had hoped, as they are struggling immensely.

The Phillies are currently fourth in the National League East with an 8-13 record. They are continuing to trend in the wrong direction, too, as they have lost each of their last five games. They have also only won two out of their last 10 games, so things are undoubtedly not good in Philadelphia right now.

If the Phillies do not turn things around immediately, there is a real chance that they will be sellers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline. If that happens, they would have some interesting trade chips to dangle.

Because of this, one of their notable infielders is now emerging in the rumor mill as a trade candidate to watch during the early stages of this season.

Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm Named a Top Trade Candidate to Watch This Season

In a recent article for FanSided, Zachary Rotman took a look at a handful of MLB trade candidates to keep an eye on this season. With the Phillies struggling big time, infielder Alec Bohm made Rotman’s list of trade candidates.

“If this season forces Dave Dombrowski to sell at the deadline, there’s no way they’ll just run things back again. While again, the core won’t be moved, switching things up from Bohm feels likely. The Phillies won’t acquire his replacement in a deal, but trading him for something and replacing him in the offseason (or even with Aidan Miller) is the play,” Rotman wrote.

Seeing Bohm be named as a top trade candidate is completely understandable. With the 29-year-old infielder being a pending free agent, he could generate interest from contenders at the trade deadline as a potential rental. With this, it would make sense for the Phillies to move him if they are still not in a playoff spot closer to the deadline.

Bohm has struggled this season, though, as he has a .139 batting average in 20 games. Yet, when noting that he had 11 home runs, 59 RBIs, and a .287 batting average just last season and was an All-Star in 2024, he certainly has the potential to bounce back this season. If he does heat back up, playoff clubs could pursue the $10.2 million infielder leading up to the deadline.

Phillies May Have No Choice But to Trade Bohm

If the Phillies are out of the playoff race at the deadline, they may have no choice but to trade Bohm. The Phillies should be looking to build their prospect pool if they continue to struggle, and dealing a veteran like Bohm could help things on that front.

Ultimately, if the Phillies are not a playoff club this year, they should not run the risk of losing Bohm for nothing this offseason and simply move him. It will be intriguing to see what happens with the seven-year veteran from here.
