Brock Bowers Has Admission About New Raiders HC Klint Kubiak

The Las Vegas Raiders‘ offense put on a sorry display last season. They scored the fewest points and gained the fewest yards of any team in the NFL.

This led to the team making sweeping changes in the offseason. Former offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was fired during the season, but things didn’t get any better after that.

This led to the Raiders hiring former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as head coach. He’s fresh off a Super Bowl win, so he should be a major upgrade at playcaller.

Tight end Brock Bowers had a historic rookie season, but saw his production decline in Year 2. Much of that was due to injury, but the team also had a hard time getting him the ball consistently.

Considering the Raiders are light on wide receiver talent, Bowers should have a huge role in the offense this season. However, it hasn’t been easy to learn Kubiak’s offense. Bowers admitted that learning Kubiak’s offense has been “overwhelming” at times, according to The Athletic’s Sam Warren.

“It’s been interesting, but it’s been good,” Bowers told Warren.

Bowers Chimes in on Fernando Mendoza

Learning Kubiak’s offense could be an uphill battle, but Bowers has plenty of time to figure things out. Another thing that will make his life easier is that the Raiders have upgraded their quarterback room this offseason.

Kirk Cousins is coming in, but the Raiders are also expected to use the No. 1 pick on quarterback Fernando Mendoza. If he’s good, Bowers and Mendoza could form a prolific duo for the next several years in Las Vegas.

Bowers didn’t say too much about his likely quarterback of the future, but he’s excited to get on the practice field together.

“Everything you see on TV is real. So I’m excited to get to know him a bit, hopefully,” Bowers told Warren.

Bounceback Year for Bowers?

Bowers set many records as a rookie, and many proclaimed him the best tight end in the NFL after just one season. There were still flashes of that dominant talent, but the Raiders’ inconsistent playcalling and quarterback play made it difficult for him to make a consistent impact.

Things should be a lot different for him this season. Kubiak knows what kind of weapon Bowers is, so he likely already has big plans for him. Rookie quarterbacks are also known to heavily rely on tight ends. If Mendoza ends up starting, he’s going to target Bowers early and often.

The Raiders are going to run the ball a lot, but developing a short passing game with Bowers could be a recipe for success. Unless Las Vegas drafts a wide receiver early, Bowers is going to be the main player featured in the passing offense.

While he’s a very good blocker, there are times when he’s basically a big wide receiver. He should be in for a huge 2026 season, as long as he stays healthy. With Travis Kelce getting older and George Kittle dealing with injuries, Bowers has a chance to truly cement himself as the best tight end in the NFL.
