Former New York Yankees Player Signs With New MLB Team

On Saturday, the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Toronto Blue Jays (at home) by a score of 6-2.

Corbin Carroll led the team with a grand slam in the eighth inning.

During the day, news came out that the Diamondbacks had signed Andrew Velazquez to a minor league deal.

Velazquez’s MLB Career

Velazquez was picked in the seventh round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

The 31-year-old spent the first two seasons of his career playing for the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians.

He then played one year each for the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees.

Following the Yankees, Velazquez spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.

He last played in the MLB during the 2023 season.

Over 275 career games, Velazquez is batting .189 with 12 home runs, 40 RBI’s, 77 runs and 40 stolen bases.

@DbacksStatsInfo wrote: “The #Dbacks have signed INF Andrew Velazquez to a minor league deal. Velazquez, 31, has appeared in 275 MLB games in parts of six seasons. He was signed by the Rangers in December ‘25 and released in March ‘26. He will head to Reno.”

Diamondbacks And Yankees Right Now

The Diamondbacks are 13-8 in 21 games, which has them as the third-place team in the American League West.

They are 7-2 in nine games at home.

Following one more game against the Blue Jays, the Diamondbacks will remain at home to host the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

The Yankees are 12-9 in 21 games, which has them as the second-place team in the American League East.
