Eagles GM Howie Roseman Sends Strong Message on Dontayvion Wicks Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles added to their wide receiver room recently, sending a fifth-round pick in 2026 and a sixth-round pick in 2027 to the Packers for WR Dontayvion Wicks over the weekend. Adding depth at wide receiver has been a need for the Eagles over the last couple of seasons, and Wicks brings size and playmaking to the position.

With the public speculation of an impending A.J. Brown trade continuing to grow, adding another wide receiver won’t slow the rumor mill down at all. But it does provide some insurance for that eventuality, and either way, the Eagles got a good player at an important position.

At a press conference, Eagles GM Howie Roseman was asked about the trade for Wicks and what it meant for Philadelphia’s plans at wide receiver moving forward.

“[Wicks] is a player that we’ve followed,” Roseman said. “Obviously, we played Green Bay a bunch of times. You see his skillset — I mean, he is a physical, explosive player at the top of routes, he can play inside or out.”

“You know, he’s a guy that we had our eye on here, and then bringing in some of these Green Bay guys…. Some of the hardest parts of our job is the collab part,” Roseman continued. “Not understanding who this person is. And so when you get a chance to bring in some of these new coaches and then talk about some of the players and [their] skillsets, and then know how they are in the building, it makes you feel even more confident when you make the acquisition.”

“And I think when you look at our receiver room over the last couple of years — obviously we lost Jahan [Dotson]. We’ve probably been fortunate without the depth that we haven’t really had to dive into. Just studying the league and seeing how many teams can go pretty deep in their receiver room. That was one of the priorities heading into this offseason: increasing the depth, the quality of talent in the receiver room throughout the room. So that really fit for us, really excited to get [Wicks] here and think he’s an arrow-up guy.”

At that same press conference, Eagles HC Nick Sirianni was also asked his thoughts on what Wicks brings to Philadelphia.

“Yeah, again, Howie mentioned how he is at the top of the route, to be able to separate at the top of the route,” Sirianni said. “And I think his toughness really shows up on tape. Again, when you can create that type of separation, we obviously get really excited about that. We’re really excited to add him to that room, and we’re excited to have him.”

“I think the other thing when you talk about [Wicks] is you can see that in key situations, the quarterback had a lot of trust in him,” Roseman added. “If you go back to that Detroit game — and he had some injuries at the end of the year, but that Detroit game, the fourth and three catch that he had, he had another fourth down catch in that game, the touchdown in the corner of the end zone where he caught that ball. Even in the game against us, [they were] really trusting him in key situations.”
