Kylian Mbappe’s Final Injury Status Ahead of Real Madrid’s Clash vs. Bayern

The second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal fixture between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich is set for Wednesday at the Allianz Arena, and Kylian Mbappe’s final injury status has been revealed.

Madrid are down 2-1 on aggregate after their defeat to Bayern at home in The Bernabeu last week. Mbappe scored the lone goal for Los Blancos at the 74th minute.

Last Friday against Girona, Mbappe suffered an injury scare after getting hit in the face by Vitor Reis. He was left bloodied and needed stitches on his forehead.

There were concerns that Mbappe might have suffered a concussion, but he was cleared to participate in Sunday’s practice. He was seen with a big bandage on his forehead, and it seemed like he had the all-clear to play in Munich.

However, Mbappe missed the following day’s training session. He was given a day off due to experiencing pain, though he was cleared to fly to Germany. He participated in the team’s practice at Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

According to the club’s official website, Mbappe participated in multiple drills and exercises. They even did some tactical work before a small-sided match and the typical shooting practice.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Mbappe will be available against Bayern. He’s likely in the starting lineup for Alvaro Arbeloa’s side, with Jude Bellingham expected to be in the starting eleven.

Bellingham has played in Madrid’s last three games after returning from a seven-week absence. He had his first start against Girona, so he’ll likely join Mbappe in the starting lineup against Bayern.

The Englishman is familiar with their opponents since he was with Borussia Dortmund for three seasons.

While Mbappe and Bellingham are among those available, Rodrygo, Thibaut Courtois and Raul Asencio are all out with an injury. Aurelien Tchouameni is suspended after picking up his third yellow card of the tournament in the first leg.

Arbeloa has plenty of options to replace Tchouameni, such as Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Thiago Pitarch and Dani Ceballos.

Despite being down entering the second leg, Arbeloa is feeling confident with his squad’s chances of overcoming the Bundesliga side and progressing into the semifinals, especially with Mbappe healthy.

“First of all, we are Real Madrid. If there is a team that comes to this stadium to turn things around, it’s us,” Arbeloa said. “We are a team that never gives up, the team with 15 European Cups. We are Real Madrid and we will return with our badge or on top of it. I don’t see that we need to perform any miracles. If we won the other day, it wouldn’t have been anything crazy.”
