Before Tuesday’s game, the Dodgers announced that they had made a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Dodgers wrote (via X): “The Dodgers acquired RHP Griff McGarry from the Philadelphia Phillies for international pool money.”
McGarry was picked in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
He has yet to make his MLB debut.
Last season, the 26-year-old went 2-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 21 Minor League games.
MLB Social Media Reacts To Dodgers-Phillies Deal
Here’s what people were saying about the deal:
Francys Romero: “The Phillies received $500,000 in international bonus pool money from the Dodgers in exchange for right-hander pitcher Griff McGarry, per sources.”
@DodgersTailgate: “The Dodgers acquired RHP Griff McGarry from the Phillies for International bonus pool money. McGarry, 26, was the Phillies 2021 5th round pick. He’s posted a 32.8% strikeout rate since 2022 in the minors, good enough for 34th best among 1586 minor leaguers with at least 150 innings pitched. He’s got the stuff. Issue has always been command. He’ll now be placed in the Dodgers lab.”
@fantasyaceball: “Why would anyone trade a player to the Dodgers for cash? The fact the Dodgers want one of your players should be a red flag that there’s something you are missing.”
@jonmberra: “The Phillies are probably going to look at least a little stupid for making this move. This is like letting Joe Boyle leave Cincy, it’s not a terrible move but ultimately someone is gonna harness the stuff, and you look a little dumb for not figuring it out.”

@ajtorres1230: “Dodgers are gonna create a monster with Griff McGarry. What are we doing…”
@TRC_Slim: “Griff McGarry journey continues. Happy he gets to go show the Dodgers his stuff. Phillies never wanted him or had room.”
@DodgerInsider: “Griff McGarry has averaged 13.1 strikeouts per nine innings in six Minor League seasons. He has a 4.21 ERA over 108 games (61 starts).”
