Nuggets Get Bad News as Timberwolves Make Major Announcement Ahead of Playoffs

The Denver Nuggets gear up for a postseason run on the heels of a highly successful finish to the 2025-26 regular season.

In the coming weeks, the playoffs are the next item on the agenda for several NBA teams, and having their best players on the floor is crucial. For the Minnesota Timberwolves, however, they are sweating the health of star Anthony Edwards, but received some good news on Tuesday.

As reported by senior writer for the Athletic, Jon Krawczynski, head coach Chris Finch delivered an update after practice saying, “Ant was full go today.”

That news is a blessing for the Timberwolves but a punch to the Denver Nuggets, whom they will face in the first round of the playoffs.

The No. 6-seeded team will challenge a Denver side that finished No. 3 and closed the regular season on a 12-game winning streak.

These are two teams that have seen plenty of each other in the past. In their most recent meeting, Minnesota came out top in Ball Area.

Edwards’ Timely Return Shifts Series vs. Denver Nuggets

The series on paper may have tilted towards the Nuggets as favorites however, this latest update evens out the odds to a large extent.

Edwards had battled right knee pain and inflammation for much of the final stretch of the regular season. He missed multiple games last month as the Timberwolves managed his availability while locked into a playoff spot.

The 24-year-old Minnesota star was also rested for his team’s final regular season game and fears loomed about how ready he would be for the first round. The latest “full-go” news from practice might have calmed those fears.

This is unwelcoming news for the Nuggets, whose defensive game plan would have ordinarily revolved around containing Edwards when he was less than 100%. But now, they will be facing the playoff version of the Minnesota star that can take over the series.

With the likes of Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels and supporting pieces like Julius Randle and Naz Reid, the Timberwolves have the tools to compete in a physical, high-stakes series. However, without Edwards in full gear, the picture doesn’t feel complete.

Edwards only played two of the final eight games of the season,  and the Wolves went 4-4 in those games while staying 14th in offensive rating. They are clearly average at best without him operating at 100%, and the Nuggets planned on exploiting that.

Denver Faces Familiar Nightmare in Edwards

The Nuggets have been on this road before, this will be their third playoff matchup against the Wolves in the last four seasons. Most recently in 2024 when the Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets en route to a conference finals appearance.

Edwards averaged 27.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game across the seven-game fiasco.

Those memories are fresh and Denver knows it cannot simply rely on regular season form. It will need to find answers for Edwards, whose full participation in the latest practice session eliminated his health questions.
