49ers Insider Reveals Team’s Potential Draft Strategy

The San Francisco 49ers are on the cusp of one of their biggest drafts in recent memory. After winning 12 games and keeping the Super Bowl window open for at least another season or two, San Francisco is looking to score big in just over a week when the NFL Draft kicks off in Pittsburgh.

After recent news has surfaced about the team hosting Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell II on a pre-draft visit, a potential draft strategy may have been revealed by insider David Lombardi. In fact, he believes that the franchise may have an opportunity to address the wide receiver position more than it already has this offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers Could Go All-in on the Wide Receiver Position During the NFL Draft

Here is what Lombardi posted on social media on Monday about his thoughts regarding the Niners’ potential draft plans for the wide receiver position:

“SF giving themselves optionality to attack the WR need at all levels of its selections. Concepcion, Cooper, Boston are top-2 round guys. Both Brazzell and Caleb Douglas are lanky 6-4 targets – Brazzell the only combine attendee under 200 pounds – with sub-4.4 speed. Both might be available in the 4th round when the 49ers have four picks.”

Along with Brazzell, the 49ers may have interest in multiple wide receiver prospects at different points of the draft. Potential first-round wide receivers such as KC Concepcion and Omar Cooper Jr. could have the interest of San Francisco when it comes on the clock at pick No. 27 overall. Then, when it comes on the clock four times in the fourth round, it could try to add another wide receiver such as Brazzell. While the team made major moves in free agency at wide receiver, it appears as though it might not be done.

The 49ers Already Added Big Names at Wide Receiver This Offseason

The wide receiver position has been the biggest point of emphasis for 49ers GM John Lynch this offseason. To combat the likely losses of veteran pass-catchers such as Kendrick Bourne, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jauan Jennings, Lynch made a couple of major signings. The one that grabbed the most headlines was that of Mike Evans. After a remarkable 12-year run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Super Bowl champion is coming to the Bay Area on a three-year deal.

Not only did San Francisco ink Evans to a mjor deal, but it also signed another veteran in former 1,000-yard receiver Christian Kirk. The 29-year-old will give the offense an experienced deep threat who can take the top off the defense.

These additions combined with a couple of big draft picks could make San Francisco’s wide receiver room one of the best in all of football. A late-round pick like Brazzell could be a total steal. Fresh off a 1,000-yard season in Knoxville, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan may look to add that productivity to his offense in Santa Clara.
