Rory McIlroy and wife, Erica Stoll, have found themselves in the spotlight in recent years as their marriage faced challenges, but the couple is sending a clear message at the Masters. Amid another McIlroy Masters run, the subject of the couple’s previous intentions to divorce have resurfaced.
Yet, McIlroy and Stoll appear to be in a much better place then when the divorce rumors surfaced in 2024. McIlroy eventually announced that the couple had reconciled and called off the divorce months after the initial reports in 2024.
As McIlroy attempts to win back-to-back green jackets, Stoll has been present at Augusta National, participating in the Masters Par 3 Tournament. McIlroy even skipped recent PGA Tour events, prioritizing spending time with his wife and daughter, Poppy, in addition to practicing at Augusta National.
“I honestly just don’t like the three tournaments leading up to this event,” McIlroy revealed during an April 10, media session. “I’d rather come up here.
“I did a couple of days where I dropped Poppy to school, flew up here, played, landed back home and had dinner with her — or had dinner with Erica probably. Like I did a couple of day trips like that where I felt it was a better use of my time than going to Houston or San Antonio. It wasn’t really about conserving energy, but just I felt the more time I could spend up here, the better.”

The couple’s daughter, Poppy, has become a bit of a star in her own right after a viral putt during the 2025 Masters Par 3 Tournament. McIlroy joked that he essentially lives with two Ericas given the similarities between mother and daughter.
“I think Poppy, like she’s a mini Erica,” McIlroy explained to reporters on April 7. “It’s like living with two of them, which is great a lot of the time. She is the most unbelievably polite and respectful and well-behaved little girl, and I really love that she started to get into the game a lot more, and it all stemmed from the putt last year at the Par 3.
“So she made sure that I brought her putter up this year so she could hit the putt with her putter and not mine. Yeah, that’s been amazing to — and as well, just to see her grow up to have her travel the world to see different places, to give her a life that I could only dream about when I was that age, that’s been the coolest thing.”

One thing Stoll is not a fan of is Tiger Woods’ late-night texts. In a recently released book titled “Rory: The Heartache and Triumph of Golf’s Most Human Superstar,” Alan Shipnuck revealed that Stoll attempted to put a stop to Woods’ texting McIlroy in the middle of the night in 2017.
“Erica actually got pissed off with it,” McIlroy told Shipnuck, per US Weekly. “He was texting me in the middle of the night and I was like, ‘Tiger is in the gym.’”
