When Scherzer pitches on Sunday, he will have a chance to make incredible MLB history.

The future Hall of Famer is just five strikeouts away from becoming the 11th pitcher to reach 3,500 for their career.

Scherzer is in his second season with the Blue Jays, and he is coming off a year where he helped the franchise reach the 2025 World Series.

In two starts this year, the 41-year-old has gone 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA.

He spent the first seven years of his career playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers.

After making two All-Star Games in Detroit, Scherzer went on to have a sensational six-and-a-half-year run with the Washington Nationals.

In that span, Scherzer made the All-Star Game six times (and won the 2019 World Series).

Scherzer then had stops with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Texas Rangers before joining the Blue Jays in 2025.

He was able to win another World Series (with the Rangers) in 2023.

Over 485 games, the three-time Cy Young Award Winner has gone 222-118 with a 3.22 ERA.
