Bryson DeChambeau & Jon Rahm Dealt Unfortunate News During Masters

Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm were among the favorites to win the Masters heading into the tournament. After just one round, both golfers are in danger of heading home early.

DeChambeau is 4-over-par after the first round at T56, while Rahm sits even further back at 6-over-par which resulted in being T73 on the leaderboard. The top 50 golfers after the first two rounds make the cut for the weekend at the Masters.

Both Rahm and DeChambeau would miss the cut as the leaderboard sits ahead of Round 2. Heading into the second round, the projected cut line is 3-over-par.

The good news for both golfers is that there is still plenty of time to gain some ground. Yet, the pressure is on DeChambeau and Rahm to have a much better second day if the golfers want to stick around for the weekend.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Masters news.

LIV Golf Stars, Headlined by Jon Rahm & Bryson DeChambeau, Are Off to Slow Start at Masters

Rahm and DeChambeau are among the LIV golfers who struggled at Augusta National. Despite the slow start, DeChambeau still sees a pathway to get back into contention.

“Just going to give what the golf course gives me,” DeChambeau noted after Round 1, per ESPN. “I have to try to hit my irons better. I drove it left numerous occasions.

“… Everybody has an ability for weird things to happen, and today, I just did not have my irons under control, which is weird. It’s been good coming into it.”

Rahm After Shooting 6-Over-Par at the Masters: ‘I Still Don’t Know What Happened, Honestly’

Rahm appears as confused as golf fans are as to his slow start. Ahead of the Masters, Rahm admitted that the golfer would like to see Augusta keep the course hard throughout the tournament. Rahm may be having second thoughts about this idea with the cut line looming.

“Hopefully get some physio, get some dinner, get something positive going in that sense,” Rahm noted following the first day at Augusta, per Yahoo Sports. “Tomorrow is a new day. It’s going to be a very much more uphill battle right now.

“… I still don’t know what happened, honestly.”

Collin Morikawa Continues to Struggle at the Masters Amid Back Injury

Another golfer to keep an eye on heading into the weekend is Collin Morikawa. The golfer withdrew from The Players in March and has missed the last several PGA events amid the back injury. Morikawa continues to be hampered by the back injury putting his chances to finish the tournament in doubt.

The golfer indicated that it is his legs more so than his back that are providing a challenge at Augusta.

“Honestly, it’s probably the toughest round I’ve ever played,” Morikawa noted following Round 1, per PGA Tour. “I don’t know.

“… I’ve never felt this nervous, like, in my life. I’ve played in majors. I’ve played in other events. I think it’s a trust factor, right?” Morikawa pondered.

“I think when it happened out on the course at The Players, there’s a certain doubt factor of, like, is this going to happen, is this not? … My head gets in the way, and the head can stop so much.”
