The winner of Thursday will take the series, as the teams split the first two games in the Bronx.
Directly following the game, the Yankees will head to Florida for a series with the Tampa Bay Rays that starts on Friday.

Before Thursday’s game, manager Aaron Boone revealed that Giancarlo Stanton will likely get a rest day on Saturday (against the Rays).
Gary Phillips of NY Daily News Sports wrote: “The current plan is to give Giancarlo Stanton the day off Saturday.”
Stanton is currently batting .341 with one home run, seven RBI’s, three runs and one stolen base in his first ten games of the 2026 season.

Stanton is in his ninth year playing for New York (after spending his first eight with the Miami Marlins).
He is coming off a year where he batted .273 with 24 home runs, 66 RBI’s and 36 runs in 77 games.

Stanton has helped the Yankees make the MLB playoffs in seven out of his first eight seasons with the franchise.
In 2024, they reached the World Series.
Over 750 games with the Yankees, Stanton is batting .246 with 187 home runs, 504 RBI’s, 370 runs and seven stolen bases.

With Wednesday’s loss to the Athletics, the Yankees dropped to 8-3 in their first 11 games, which still has them at the top of the American League East.
