Anthony Davis Trashes Everything About the Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Anthony Davis number one overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. He was brought in to be the franchise superstar and help them win a title.

Davis spent the first seven seasons of his NBA career in New Orleans. He made it to the playoffs just twice in that timespan, winning only one playoff series. After that, he was traded to the Lakers.

While in LA, Davis won a championship in his first season with his new team. Now, Davis is on his fourth different team of his career. He has decided that he really doesn’t like anything the Pelicans have done in the last few years.

While appearing on the Draymond Green Show, Davis had several strong statements about the Pelicans. Davis mentioned that he told Pelicans owner Gayle Benson that he would like to come back to New Orleans one day. That changed after he was not given a tribute video.

Davis also doesn’t like how they treat star players there, saying he still gets booed every time he visits there.

“It’s not even about the money. I genuinely want to win. So now, because I want to win, I’m considered a villain to this team and to this fan base. To this day, I go back, and they still boo me.”

Green inserted his own thoughts on the situation, claiming that’s why the Pelicans are a losing franchise.

“That’s why they still losing. You don’t boo the best player in your franchise history, you appreciate em.”

New Orleans has made the playoffs twice since trading Davis, but they haven’t won a playoff series. Davis is still seeking his first championship, however.

Davis even trashed how the Pelicans were making drafting decisions. He claims he wanted New Orleans to take Ja Morant instead of Zion Williamson.

“If you can get Ja Morant at number one, then we have a real conversation going because I know how he’s going to help our team. Jrue has got to handle the ball, and he loves to get people involved. But Jrue, go score…and he was like, ‘I can’t, I got to take Zion.’”

Davis seemed to have made up his mind to leave New Orleans by then. He was headed to Los Angeles that next season, where he won a title in the bubble. Now, the Pelicans are in the midst of another rebuild that could see them try to trade Williamson.

This year, New Orleans has the ninth-worst defense in the league. Offensively, things haven’t been much better. Part of that has been because of the injuries they have endured this year.

Expect some changes for the Pelicans as they try to re-tool yet again. Lottery luck could help them, if they end up keeping their pick.
