With a key role on a second-seeded San Antonio Spurs team, Julian Champagnie is feeling grateful for his journey as he reflects on the past. That past includes the Philadelphia 76ers.
The former Sixer’s run in Pennsylvania was short-lived and often forgetful, but that’s not something the 24-year-old is upset about.
In Champagnie’s eyes, getting cut was the best thing that could happen to him in the long run. He recently reflected on the start of his career.

âWhen I got cut, I acted like, âOh man, Iâm out the league. I donât even know what Iâm about to do.â Looking back on it, obviously, three years passed. Itâs a crazy feeling, honestly. Itâs all about how you carry yourself,” Champagnie said. “All about how you go into the next challenge. Figuring things out, telling yourself itâs not the end, youâre going to figure this out. No matter what happens, thatâs what itâs going to be.
“Iâm super grateful for it. My whole journey. I wouldnât change it, I wouldnât have it no other way. Iâm happy I got cut, probably the best thing that could have happened for me. Shoutout to Philly.”
From Philly To San Antonio

Champagnie was one of many two-way players to cycle through Philadelphia during the Daryl Morey era. He was a classic case of a young player on a championship-hopeful team, leaving him with few opportunities to get on the court.
Coming out of St. John’s in 2022, Champagnie didn’t get a call on draft night. He was signed by the Sixers on a two-way contract, splitting time between the Sixers and the Delaware Blue Coats. With the main roster, Champagnie appeared in just two games.
The Sixers waived Champagnie in February 2023. Two days later, he was signed by the Spurs on a two-way deal. In the following summer, he re-signed with San Antonio and hasn’t left since.
During the 2025-2026 season, Champagnie is having a career year. In 78 games (64 starts), the veteran forward is shooting 43.7% from the field and 38.6% from three. He is averaging 11.3 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game.
After the 2025-2026 season, Champagnie will wait on the Spurs’ decision regarding his team option. The Spurs have until June 29 to accept or decline. No matter what happens, the Ex-Sixer is clearly feeling good about where he’s at in his career.
