Cardinals Share Masyn Winn Update After Car Crash Following Walk-Off Win

The St. Louis Cardinals continued their surprisingly encouraging start to the 2026 campaign on Wednesday when they picked up a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets in 11 innings. Masyn Winn played hero for the Cardinals, as he hit a bloop single into shallow right field that ended up falling and allowing JJ Wetherholt to score the game-winning run.

Shortly after the game, though, St. Louis received some worrying news involving Winn, as it was revealed that he was involved in a car crash. Fans quickly became worried about Winn’s status, but the Cardinals issued a statement on the situation that confirmed the talented shortstop is doing well in the wake of this accident.

Cardinals Issue Statement on Masyn Winn Car Crash

Winn blazed his way through the Cardinals’ farm system after getting selected in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft, and he briefly found his way into the majors in 2023. Winn promptly earned the starting shortstop job in 2024, and he turned in what appeared to be a breakout campaign, as he hit .267 with 15 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases. For his defense, he also won the first Gold Glove Award of his career.

In 2025, Winn held his own, but he struggled to reach the same heights he managed to hit the year before. Early on in 2026, Winn hasn’t been much better, as he has just a .160 batting average through six games. However, he got his first RBI of the season, and considering how it led to a win for St. Louis, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Reports emerged on Wednesday night that Winn was involved in a car accident, just hours after his heroics for the Cardinals. Thankfully, the team shared that Winn is doing well, as he was examined at a local hospital, where it was determined he suffered no serious injuries. As a result, it appears the talented infielder has dodged a bullet.

“Following today’s game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Int 64/Hwy 40 due to wet pavement,” Tamar Sher of KMOV shared in a post on X. “Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries. We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight.”

Obviously, the most important thing for Winn right now is his well-being, as getting in any sort of car accident is always worrisome. The good news is that he appears to have escaped unscathed, although the Cardinals may opt to give him another day or two off in an effort to allow him to properly recover from what happened.
