Reports of Tiger Woods Missing 2026 Masters Emerge Amid Car Crash

Tiger Woods could be in danger of missing the Masters after suffering a car crash on Friday in Florida, a report indicated.

ESPN reported that the golfer was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday.

“No details about the cause of the crash or Woods’ condition were immediately released by the sheriff’s office,” the report noted. “Police are investigating, and a county sheriff is scheduled to speak with reporters at 5 p.m. ET.”

While there were no immediate details about the crash, photographs at the scene published by multiple media outlets showed a car on its side. The crash appears to have taken place in a residential neighborhood.

Tiger Woods Made Masters Decision Before Car Crash

While it remains unclear whether Woods suffered injuries or the cause of the crash, another separate report indicated that he had already made up his mind about competing in the Masters Tournament this year.

TMZ reported on Friday that Donald Trump — who has been close with the golfer — revealed on Thursday that Woods had already decided not to compete in the Masters.

“Pretty big news! While it’s unclear who his source is … it’s fair to say he’s well-connected to the situation,” the TMZ report noted. “Tiger and DJT are friends … and Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of his son, Donald Trump Jr.”

Tiger Woods Working Back From Injuries

Prior to the report from Trump and TMZ, there had been speculation about whether Woods would attempt to compete in the Masters. The golfer did hit the golf course for the TGL finals on Tuesday, competing for his Jupiter Links GC against the Los Angeles Golf Club.

Woods had been working to return from a torn Achilles tendon suffered close to one year ago. He also underwent back surgery in October, which further complicated his rehab.

ESPN added that Woods had also been injured in a previous car accident.

“In February 2021, Woods suffered significant leg injuries in a one-car crash in Southern California in which the vehicle rolled several times and left him trapped in the car,” the report noted. “He later had surgery to deal with ‘open fractures’ to his lower right leg, had a rod placed in a tibia and had screws and pins inserted in his foot and ankle during emergency surgery. He had at least one more surgery related to injuries from the crash in April 2023.”

Woods also entered the 46th U.S. Senior Open in July, though it was unclear if he would actually compete.

“Tiger has entered the championship, simply to ensure eligibility, but will not make a decision about playing until a later date,” a USGA spokesperson said Friday, via The Sports Leader.

Woods hit only nine shots in the TGL Finals, his first action in more than a year, Golfweek reported. The report added that Woods was happy to get back on the course, where he felt at home.

“I want to play. I love the tournament,” Woods said. “I love being there since I was 19 years old. I’m going to be there either way.”
